You can cross genders at will.  Girls can pick guy characters and guys can pick girl characters.

You may also invent a hybrid of one guy and one girl, to be construed as their hypothetical offspring, whose name will combine portions of its imagined parents' names.  Incest is OK.

As for me, I would go with Lesard (the "s" is soft so the name makes you think of a lizard) who is the offspring of Leonard and Leslie.  I'm probably as nice as Leonard but nowhere near as moral.  Meanwhile, I'm as amoral as Leslie but nowhere near as mean, although I don't suffer fools gladly, a trait I share with her - only in her it's more brutal.  I'm often the voice of reason like Leonard.  I'm as outgoing as Leslie.  I'm cynical like Leslie.  I have Leonard's geekiness about the things I'm geeky about, and like Leonard, one of my geekdoms is comic books.
