This is my first post on this site.  I am confused as to what support, information, education, and enlightenment a "Christian" would find in this forum.  I respect individuals, but not all beliefs.  A person is allowed to beleive anything they wish, but it does not make it respectable.  A woman (young girl) in Aphganistan was recently released from prison.  She had been incarcerated for being raped.  She was released with her daughter she gave birth to in prison on the condition she marry her rapist.  This follows the "belief" in the Koran that women carry the burden and obligation to protect the family "honour".

I have been an atheist all my life, am fifty years old, have two grown daughters and live in Florida.  There is a bank and church on every street corner.  I have felt extremely lonely here since we move from Massachusetts in 2004.  I am looking for friendship and stimulating conversation.  I am not looking for any Theist of any religion to make futile attempts at conversion.  I look forward to being enlightened by everyone on this site.

Welcome to HAF! I think you are entitled to your own personal intro thread - the moderator team can fix that.

I sort of disagree with your policy of respecting individuals as default, as I see respect as something to be earned, so I respect people's rights on general principle, and as for people themselves... Whether or not I respect them is largely defined by how they choose to use those rights.

Hi djc

You'd be surprised the number of christians that can't stand CHRISTIANS! We're just a friendly bunch really and we don't really care what one believes, as long as they don't expect anybody else to believe it. :)

Welcome to HAF.

Welcome, djc!  Don't worry, you won't be pestered by theists trying to convert you - occasionally one tries, but we have developed ways of dealing with them.

Most of us here will, I think, agree that religious beliefs do not naturally have a right to respect.

Beware the Asmo, marvel at the Pudding and never believe a word I say.  Many of the others are relatively sane, being younger.

Hello and welcome to HAF, djc. This place can help to provide friendship and conversation-- I'm not sure about how much enlightenment is available though.

I visited Florida this past spring with a friend from England, and she was truly amazed at the number of churches we saw as we drove around the state. I don't know that there are more there per capita than in the rest of the US; the number seemed about normal to me.

I hope you enjoy your time reading and posting here!

hi djc, welcome to the forum. Hopefully we can supply some friendship and more interesting conversation than you'd find in those myriad of churches!

Hehehe. I think that's a slight reference to me. Welcome DJC, hope you find it quite nice here on HAF. We're really friendly and we don't bite.. Well, with the exception of Asmo, but he's special. Looking forward to seeing more post from you. :)

A Bank and a Church on every street corner!   Looks like they want people both spiritually and physically enslaved!

Anyways...I'm glad to see you here!  :)
