It happens to me, too.  What I keep telling myself I'll do is use Notepad as a store.  Either compose the whole thing in Notepad, or, if you can't be arsed to write the bb code yourself, compose on the forum and cut'n'paste to Notepad before you post.

When I've hit POST and it seems slow, I've sometimes managed to get the text onto the clipboard at that stage.

Use Firefox, go back one screen and re-submit.

It's enough to drive a body to drink. I used to contribute to a "This Day in Music" thread elsewhere, and still do on occasion. It might take as much as 4 or 5 hours to research and write up details on all the births, deaths, first performances, and so on for a daily entry. The thing is, many of the common lists for this sort of thing are not accurate, so if that bothers you, it's necessary to do a search on every item, which in the case of an obscure composer might take several minutes in itself. After nearly completing some of those things and losing them due to an unreliable computer or other issues, I started using a gmail account to write them in. It has an autosave, and even if the computer decided arbitrarily at some point to freeze or lose its internet connection, or simply abruptly shut down, I wouldn't lose that much, because the data was actually being stored online. If you're sure it's your connection and not the computer itself, you could simply use a text editing program like Notepad as already suggested, or Word or whatever you might have when you think you might feel like writing a longer piece.

I do know the feeling, and though I might be able to think of a few people I'd wish it on, you aren't one of them. You have my sympathy.

Yes, let's!  ;D

So lemme see... FireFox. On a Windows system, you already have a browser bundled with the OS. That browser does its thing quite well, so why install another..? Me, I don't like my machines becoming software dumps.

Your turn. Limit yourself to one pointless argument though - let's make it last  ;D

[Pointless Post  :D]I admit it. I'm too stupid to use Windows. It doesn't make any sense to me and I'm too old to have to deal with viruses. Maybe the youth find them a challenge but I can't be arsed. Linux in general and Debian in particular is just the ticket for a mentally challenged geezer like me. I also don't have any problems on forums. For the record, I use Iceweasel as my browser (version 7.0.1) which is just FFx without the branding issues.[/Pointless Post]

Last time my machine got infected was... Ooh, nearly ten years ago. Dealing with viruses is as easy as knowing what you are doing on your network most of the time.

Linux are fair enough OSs though... Even though they are largely freeware.

Actually that's not quite true, Asmodean. Linux uses largely FOSS (frree and open source software) which is quite different from freeware. Defined in a Wik:
QuoteFreeware (from "free" and "software") is computer software that is available for use at no cost or for an optional fee, but usually with one or more restricted usage rights.
Freeware is basically a windows product. There's little if any on Linux (there wouldn't be any point). You might be surprised if you find out a bit more about linux. [End of plug, sorry]
