I watched the pilot for the original ST when it first aired and I was so happy -- SF, every single week!  Altho all the Treks had their shortcomings, I didn't really hate any of them since they all pandered to my biggest fantasy of living in space, and living with aliens.  To be transported every week into a life where that was happening I could (and did) overlook a lot.  I ditto whoever complained about the PC level, that was the thing that always irked me the most too.
