Ooh, I like how all the emoticons are blue.  Nifty.  My favorite color.

Anyway, I'm new (why do people say this?  If it's the first post by any given person, it should stand to reason that the person is new).

I wrote this the other day after thinking about the first part the night before:

I think it's probably true.

I just bought Christopher Hitchens' book God is Not Great.  Just finished chapter 1; very engaging so far.  I'm a fast reader so I'll probably be finished with it in a few days.  One of my friends (all my friends are atheists as well, except one who converted to Judaism) lent me The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins as well, and I liked that, even if he does get a bit insufferable at times.

I never had a religion growing up (although whenever I visited my Catholic grandmother, as a kid, she'd try to get me to "convert" to Christianity, and I put the word "convert" in quotes because, like I said, I didn't have a religion to convert from), and always liked science in school (especially astronomy.  I've been an astronomy freak since approximately the age of eight).  It always made more sense to me than just "God did this."  I like being an atheist; I don't have to worry about some Invisible Space Dude breathing down my neck about what I am and am not allowed to do according to a book.

EDIT:  Okay, I obviously know what "Aries" and "female" mean but what the hell is "goat"?

If it's the Chinese zodiac then mine should be a sheep, as that's the animal for 1979.  That's why I asked.

Just a note:  I changed the LiveJournal entry I linked in my OP to friends-only (which is what it was before).  But if you want to read it PM me and I will copy and paste it in a PM back to you.

Hi MysticalChicken - welcome aboard.  I like astronomy too - while I write this Orion is hanging quite fetchingly in the sky above my backyard.  I'm soaking it in - looks like its going to be cloudy for a while after tonight  :(
