Hi!

I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 19 year old biochem major going into my sophomore year in college. I go to school in New Hampshire, but I live in Massachusetts. I come from a very catholic background (growing up with two parents and an uncle who happens to be part of a religious order) and I'm just looking to meet some other atheists!

Hi!

I've been to Massachusetts once. It was very pretty there  ;D

Welcome!
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

Hello
New places are best, my particular new place is actually quite old, once great mountain ranges are now reduced to rubble.  It used to be a bigger place, half a continent and New Zealand too.  I'm not sure if there is or was much of a resemblance to South Wales, maybe JC (our finder, not our saviour) was just good with maps and not names.

If this post seems odd blame xSilverPhinx's new avatar, if I was a more self centred pudding I'd say it was designed to disturb me.

Oooh, biochem is tough!  :-[

But anyways, welcome to he forum! Always happy to have more logical people in the world.

Welcome..!

If you don't mind me asking, you becoming an atheist with your background sounds like a story worth telling..?

Welcome to the forum. Another east coaster here. A bit south of you though. Pennsylvania. Wife is from New England though. Have fun and lots of luck with biochem.

And although I find xSilverPhinx's avatar interesting, the one that really catches my eye is DeterminedJuliet's. That is cool looking.

All that pales in comparison to Asmodean's avatar. That one has its own cult  ;D

I've been an atheist for about three years.

The story isn't too interesting. Catholicism always had a lot of holes in it for me, and my parent's always encouraged independent thought (except when it came to religion). I was (ironically enough) encouraged by a religion teacher in high school to question my faith and the problems I had with religion. Questioning lead to outright rejection, which my religion teacher at the time was surprisingly supportive of. As far as my family goes...well when I'm home from college I still have to go to church every week, and while I have strongly questioned the tenants of the catholic church with them, I don't think I will ever be able to tell them I'm an atheist. It just one of those things that it would hurt them and it would probably just start conversion sessions I'd rather not be a part of.

*blink* Not at all! I removed the previous one for you ;D

I think it would be awesome if kangaroos actually did that, I don't think I could stifle a laugh if I ever saw a group take flight...
