"Why are woman not attracted to debate forums?"

Silly, it's because women are always right. :-*

Lol, who said that?

If that last bit be the case, perhaps it's time to re-evaluate that first bit?   ;D

Interesting proportion of men to women, does this trend carry on nationally or is it more of an internet effect? As men seem to spend more time on forums.

not everyone has filled out their gender (in fact most haven't)

but according to our stats (which you can find linked at the bottom of the main forum:

Male to Female Ratio:    18.1:1

I think this ratio got up to 80:1, probably more.
Tank's been dusting away the spammers and now it's 3.5:1
That's seems more believable.
Is male the default setting or are spammers overwhelmingly male and can't bear to pretend otherwise, or ????

I'm a lady!

That's weird, I wonder why this forum has so many more men than women. O__o

Most bots capable of voting in a poll usually just pick the top option. That is true for some spammers too, I suppose, although most of them are likely male and have no life besides.

As Tank said earlier in the thread, HAF actually seems to have a higher proportion of women than similar places on the net. That may have something to do with the name of the forum, as well as the conscious effort made by members and staff to maintain a civil atmosphere here, as opposed to many other fora where harsh rhetoric and blatant or thinly veiled ad hominems are the norm. I'm not saying that women aren't into that kind of approach, but I think that statistically, men may get more of a kick out of it. ::) Thus this place may more accurately reflect the actual proportions of self-identified male and female atheists than others. As the survey results that I posted links to earlier indicate, the proportions here, according to the current results of Willow's poll are not that different from national results in the US.

Then again, we have members from all parts of the world, so I guess that shoots my hypothesis down.

Porn for sex and cat for companionship is working well so far - and a good thing, too, as switching them would be weird.  8)

Recusant's explanation makes sense to me. I don't think forums, themselves, are a "guy" thing. I've participated in many forums (wedding, fertility, baby, etc) that have been probably 95% or more female.

"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.
