Paper Airplanes Flown from the Edge of Space!

These guys put 100 paper planes with SD cards on them, attached them to a weather balloon, and released them from the edge of space!

They're getting found planes from all over - here's the main site:

We did a project like this when I was growing up, using postcards.  Mine came back from several states away... really cool!

So what happens when the SD cards land in a lake/river/sea/ocean/volcano/etc? Sounds like a waste of resources to me. Might as well be throwing money in the air.

... I'm guessing that Sandisk somehow donated the media (or sponsored the project in some way).

That would be quite an SD card if it could survive a volcano!
