Muscle Spasms In My Left Arm

I've been experiencing random muscle spasms for a few years now (I think they started when I was in 8th grade. I'm 20 now) in my left arm. I pretty much have to hold my left arm down with my right arm with a lot of force to keep it from flailing around and it's pretty annoying. It feels like it originates in my left foot and somehow goes up to my arm and wrist. I find that when I'm about to have a muscle spasm I can kind of prevent it by stretching my left foot or tensing up my left leg. But sometimes I can't prevent them and it's getting a bit frustrating for me, especially when I'm in public cause I look weird holding my arm. I've even gotten them while driving, but that only seems to be an issue when I'm turning instead of just going straight. Is getting surgery for my arm (or foot/leg) the only way to solve this issue?

I think you should go have it checked out.  My guess would be a pinched nerve but I have absolutely no medical training.

Write down your general symptoms in detail. Describe how they have changed over time. Write up one recent episode in detail. Go to your doctor and discuss what you have written. Writing this down means you are less likely to miss a detail as you will be able to think about your symptoms at your own speed rather than blurting it all out when you're 'on the clock'. The written record will also be recorded and will act as a datum for your symptoms so if they continue to change change there will be a point to gauge their progress.

What's your diet like and how many bowel movements do you have in a usual day? Plus, are you active? As in, get at least 7-10 hours of execise per week?

I'm going into holistic medicine, and I've found that EVERY disease, unless heriditary, is linked in some way to diet and exercise. Even ones that include muscle spasms.

I loved when Bush came out and said, "We are losing the war against drugs." You know what that implies? There's a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it.

See a doctor and don't hide this from your parents. No one here is qualified to help you with this from a medical perspective, but you've received some great advice already regarding how to write down what you are experiencing so you can tell your doctor what's going on. Ditto to Tank's advice.

Sounds like nerve damage. There can be many causes, from easily treatable to manageable to chronic to progressive. Hard to say more without a proper history and an even more proper medical education. See a neurologist.

Marburg hemorrhagic fever.
Epilepsy.
Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis. (This can be indirectly caused by certain forms of diet and exercise though)
Syphilis.

Add a very long list of diseases which will hit you right between the eyes no matter how you eat and exercise.

In case it wasn't stressed enough before...yes...go see a freakin doctor, Godless.  You are old enough to go by yourself now too.

I don't think 'a freakin doctor' is a very good idea, I'd prefer mine cool, calm and collected!  :D

Eating bananas may help as well. Spasm can be caused by a lack of Potassium, and bananas would provide a lot of it. Doesn't hurt to get it checked out, though. Good luck!

Possibly caused from a hint of  dehydration? Not enough water?
