This is cool.  Apparently there is a hornet that generates electricity in it's exoskeleton, making the insect the first animal to get some of it's energy from solar power.  I'm guessing that there are a lot more insects out there that can do this with their pigments, the ability just hasn't been looked for before.

The essence of the mind is not in what it thinks, but how it thinks. Faith is the surrender of our mind; of reason and our skepticism to put all our trust or faith in someone or something that has no good evidence of itself. That is a sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith is not.

QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

Have you ever seen the kill-strategy by a bee colony?

They cook their opponent.

Finally!!

It's about time we, the proud members of the animal kingdom, starting taking back some of that solar power all those damn plants have been stealing. In fact, I say we should go one step further and steal all their chloroplasts so we can perform our own photosynthesis!!

Oh, the irony!

Yes, I know I'm a nerd. Leave me alone.  :headbang:

Speaking of taking back some of the solar power of plants... there is an animal that actually takes that part of plants and incorporates it into itself: Behold: the solar powered slug!

Yes they surround the invader and then raise their own body temperature to the point where the invader dies. Fascinating behaviour.

Nasty... I hear that Ants do that too:

That is one awesome sea slug, Davin.

Always thought it was cool that sea slugs were able to steal nematocysts from the corals that they eat for their own defense purposes. What's really wild in this one is according to the article you linked these slugs are actually incorporating the DNA from the algae to produce the chloroplasts themselves....Mind boggling.
