Ba'al

It was nice to stumble upon this forum.

A little bit about my background.. I am 24 years old, I have a master's degree, and I work in Advertising. I was born into a Druze family (Google Druze if you never heard of them). My parents were "sort of" secular, but they were not atheists ; for them the existence of GOD was unquestionable. so i was bought up believing in this supernatural creator, but thankfully i was spared all the cult-like traditions that come with any religion or faith system, like for example conforming to a certain dress code, or praying on a certain day of the week etc. Almost all of my relatives and friends were secular in that sense as well, so i cant claim that i was pressured to do or believe in insensible religious stuff.

I began to have doubts about the existence of God in my early teens, However, up until I hit 21 I could not make up my mind about whether god existed or not. Today, I describe myself as an Agnostic Atheist; i don't believe in any sort of supernatural entity and i try my best to interpret life as logically as possible. However, i find some things that are difficult for me to understand or reason with; something along the lines of 'what happens with our consciousness after we die?". I try my best to make sense of the world around me, and I have come up with a sort of a complicated world view. Some famous atheists who had some influence on my world view are: Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Neil De Grass Tyson and Noam Chomsky.

Well, this is me.. I would like to meet some like minded people in this forum...

Hi there.  Do you still live in the Levant (assuming you were born there, of course)?

Also, Tyson rocks.  Hell yeah.

Welcome to HAF.

Hi Ba'al

You are the first person of Druze origin I have ever come across on any forum I have frequented. It's good to see that you found your way out from the mythological background, that's not a very easy thing to do. I hope you get to enjoy your time here.

Welcome aboard.

Regards
Chris

I look forward to learning more of this 'complicated world view'.

They are all favourites of mine, well, maybe except for Chomsky who I don't know much about.   Welcome!
