Stem Cell research may be a pipedream for Americans now but something potentially more important has made a major breakthrough. Moore's law just got renewed beyond 2020 thanks to a whole new paradigm of computing. Memristors have me really excited, apparently they may have the potential for SYNAPTIC LOGIC, let me say that one more time, SYNAPTIC LOGIC!. Kurzweil said we'd hit this barrier in 2020 and in a couple of years after figure out something much better, he was wrong, we did in 2010 before even hitting the wall.  :headbang:

I hope they are successful, I may need a synaptic transplant soon.

Quote from: "Tank"Very interesting. I used to be an electronics engineer and worked on Intel products when the 8080 was a cutting edge processor (yes that does date me!).

Holy crap, I almost feel young again.

(First computing experience: writing BASIC programs for a Commodore PET, with all of 5K.)

I remember a white paper produced at Intel showing how error detection and correction in a 64k bit 1x8 dynamic RAM could overcome the effects of cosmic rays 'knocking out' bits. Until then the effect of cosmic rays on dynamic RAM had been considered a limiting factor on memory density. The initial devices sold for £20 each in quantities of 800! And we could sell every one we could lay our hands on 10 times over.

I hope that is indeed the case. I"m a big fan of the singularity theory. It's a shame that usually when I mention it to other people who are savvy to tech they call me a blithering idiot for even putting any merit to Kurzweil but I think it's just cool to hate Kurzweil now. The whole singularity theory seems to becoming more real every month with breakthroughs in technology.

Better hope it doesn't get patented into a hole or you gonna have to suck it up and get back with the PCs!
