Edward the Theist

What? No round of, "Hello Edward."

Be that as it may, I'm happy to be here, and I hope we can have some productive discussions. I'm not your typical theist, so you might find me a bit more of a challenge than the hoppin-stompin redneck down at the local Church of the Third Revelation, but I guess that remains to be seen.

Anyway, I just found this forum, and I'm excited to read on.

Sincerely,

Edward

Hello, and welcome to HAF, Edward the Theist.  I think that various varieties of theists who've joined this forum all present their own type of challenge.  Speaking only for myself, a good part of why I'm still here is the entertainment value presented by the dialogs that can arise in a place like this.  So the more variety the better, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know that we've had many "redneck" theists here.  Willfully ignorant fundamentalists we've had, but I wouldn't classify most of them as rednecks.  I know rednecks pretty well, having spent a lot of my life among them, and I can't think of a single Christian redneck of my acquaintance who would bother joining an atheist forum.

[EDIT]  Is that a Manchester Terrier in your avatar image?  I hear they can be nice little dogs, but every one of them I've encountered so far has been a nervous little loudmouth.  I grew up in a family that had lots of dogs, so it's not as if I don't know how to act around them.

Hello Edward

So a presumption in your very first post, well done, at least we know you're prejudiced at the outset.

You'll find this isn't the a typical forum either, we will see you as a member first and a theist second, that is if that's what you want to happen. If you have come here to preach, pontificate and prozlatize your time will be short and painful.

A tentative welcome aboard, not because you are a theist but because, on the basis of this one post, you come over as an arrogant schmuk.

Not a good start.

Regards
Chris

Edward, if you would like to see how saying hi should be done have a look here http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/showt ... p?t=134850 this was my introduction at Tweb.

Oh, and I missed out the 'Welcome aboard!' earlier  :D

I was born in Dec '59 which makes me just turned 50 ATM. I was born in Worthing on the South coast of England and have lived in Leeds since '86. My Dad was an atheist, he died in '77 and my mum is a member of the Church of England (which has been described as Homoeopathic protestantism as it is so diluted  lol

I am here to 'see the other side' as it were. I do admit to a degree of trepidation coming here primarily because of the nature of some theists that join RDF they are to all intents and purposes 'mad as the March hare'. Fortunately Theology101 doesn't fall into that category.

I think that RDF tends to attract the attention of the more evangelical type of theist so I'm here to see if they are representative of theists as a group.

Any questions? Please feel free to ask.

Hello Edward,

I am new here as well.  I hope to engage in productive discussions with a theist.

Uncalled for. He just introduced himself. I haven't posted many warnings lately, but I'm tired of people jumping on first time posters. Your post is out of line. This is an official warning, because you've done it before and I've mentioned it to you and asked you to not do it.

I don't think Tank was referring to this introduction but rather the impression he gave him from this earlier thread of Edward's.

I thought that might be the case too, but I just re-read Tank's post, and it refers to "this one post". That's the post in this thread, which is the introductory thread, and where it is inappropriate to to do this. Either way, calling someone an arrogant schmuk (sic) is a personal attack and was completely unnecessary here.

McQ was right I was referring to the first one post. I will endeavour to be more polite to noobs.

Although what I said was  'you come over as an arrogant schmuk' not that 'you are an arrogant shmuck.' which of course is quite different and was not intended as a personal insult, although I can see how it might look like one, it was not my intent. My intent was to convey the impression the post had given me of the poster, to the poster.
