Also, I'm really lucky to have this CAF wing less than 15 miles away:

That Mk XIV Spitfire looks sweet!

I live very close to Duxford air museum. I went there last year and the American hangar they have there is spectacular. They have a real Blackbird SR71 (my favourite ever aircraft)... I was able to touch it :)

I patted the SR71, right next to the 'Do Not Touch' sign, I'm such a rebel!

Duxford is an amazing place.

Quote from: "karadan"I was utterly gob-smacked to find out they had one there and very humbled to stand in its presence.
This is how I feel when I see even a static display of WWII weapons. They are so rare these days. There's Cavannaugh Flight museum in Dallas that has these:

My son is standing next to the Heinkel. This is one of the few surviving He111's left. It came from Spain and flew in the movie The Battle of Britain.
Notice how small these aircraft are. There was a Spitfire too, but I can't find the photos.
The essence of the mind is not in what it thinks, but how it thinks. Faith is the surrender of our mind; of reason and our skepticism to put all our trust or faith in someone or something that has no good evidence of itself. That is a sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith is not.

The Spit isn't flying, but it's not uncommon to see the PB1Y (the B-25 analogue) up and about.  You can hear these planes long before you see them.

Don't you just love the smell in those places? That faint whiff of Swarfega and oil. It always brings back memories of when my dad used to take me to his base near Andover to look at the Gazelle and Lynx helicopters.

I live a couple of hours north of Corpus Christi, TX where the U.S.S. Lexington floating museum is located.  And while my time in the Navy saw me spending a large chunk of my time onboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln CVN-72:

Although, now, years later my wife has been wanting to have something for home defense, while my idea looks something like this:

I'm thinking that a 12 gauge would be a better option for her right now anyway so we'll probably end up going with one of these:

And one more thing for fun, here's some sea sparrows being launched from the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln:

Honestly...and it's sad for me to say it...but nothing gives me a bigger stiffy when I hear a four engine Pratt & Whitney Bomber fly 100 feet over me.

Now...if I could just afford a ride in one of these...

Might need to bring a few paper towels though...*sheepish grin*

And here is a nice Dutch toy, capable of destroying sea sparrows  ;) . I wish I had one mounted on my car.

Speaking of aircraft carriers, I was on CVA 19. Look it up, you'll be surprised.
