On topic thoughts.

Throughout time and across the world morality has been mutable. Each isolated society has developed and adhered to its own moral code that suited its own circumstances. As societies merged one dominant moral code came to be seen as the only moral code. One common moral guide often appears though. The so called 'golden rule' of mutuality of behaviour as an acceptable base line for social living. Your interlocutor would probably agree with 'Do unto others as you would have done unto you' as it is enshrined in the doctrine she adheres to. Thus your meeting point should be the 'golden rule' and that rule should trump all others. Try that as it'll will provide a safe haven for discussion.

I dissagree with the golden rule, though--you gotta treat other people the way that they would treat you under the golden rule.

It´s like the golden rule, but with an extra permutation.
Example of a situation in which it could have helped:

"AAGGH!! Get out!!  I wouldn´t interupt YOU like this!!!"
"You know, I really wouldn´t mind.  But whatever.  Bye now."
"And now you´re leaving without appologising?  GAAAAH!"
"Jeez, dude, I´m sorry."
