I don't think it's intolerant to say that this is wrong. The subjugation of women is wrong, whether it's religiously motivated or not. For those Americans who continue to claim that our country is somehow a Christian nation - take a good look at what a theocracy looks like.  It's pale and void of cleavage and ripe with oppression.

When you talk like that, it does kind of make me a little more outraged... I like cleavage... and hate oppression... and usually in that order.

When they keep doing things like this, it's very difficult to take them seriously and difficult not to laugh, but unfortunately these assholes are serious.

What a laughing stock Ahmadinejad and his sidekicks are.

Being tolerant does not mean you have to tolerate stupidity or oppression.

It is so sad because so many people in Iran want a democracy and the freedom to be themselves without the fear of religious police brutality.

Millions of people in Iran are trapped in a hellish situation. It is very upsetting. :(

This is just stupid...

"The announcement came shortly after Ayatollah Kazim Sadighi, a leading cleric, warned that women who dressed immodestly disturbed young men and the consequent agitation caused earthquakes. "   :hmm:

It's this type of idiocy that makes it hard for me to remain unprejudiced against religious folk.

Also, I support cleavage and oppose oppression.

they are just doing there part to prevent natural.. erm... un-natural disasters.
everyone now knows cleavage and a decent tan causes earth quakes. i thought we already crossed that bridge and swallowed that pearl of wisdom. its been proven fact.

besides, they dont have to worry about skin cancer this way. just some good old fashioned free health care. call it preventive maintenance.

The U.S. wants the rest of the world to me an image of itself. It has its own definitions of freedom and of the way people should live. The U.S. is a CHRISTIAN NATION. Christians have their own interpretations and definitions of what is " MORAL " and what is not " MORAL ". Women in the U.S. are still fighting for their rightful place. Islamics laws are Islamics laws period. One day both Christians and Moslems will do away with their ignorance and join " LIFE ". In the mean time, they can look at each other and search for ways to control people with their politics and their religious beliefs. You are just one second better living on this side not much more.

Well, the fact that the US isn't a christian nation aside, sure, if everyone in Iran had no issue with what their theocratic government wanted them to abide by, there'd be no issue. The problem is, an enormous portion of the Iranian population want democracy and a less oppressive life. You saw the riots they had earlier this year i presume? That was the collective voice of a lot of very pissed off people wanting radical change to their broken system.

Democracy is a western ideal. It isn't owned by any religion.

Is it stealing the thread to branch off to something like how far should we go when we see people being tortured?

Dunno, I'll let the mod blast me afterward, but I see it only slightly off topic.

They want international trade, some want to get their voices heard by the world and that to me is them saying they want to be involved in the world... and that isn't a one way street. However, I don't think we should be dictating their society to them... besides, a quick glance at history will show that forcing democracy on any country has never worked.

So I think we should voice our objections to things that we see are wrong, but not go in and force them to correct it. We should also offer sanctuary for those that wish to remove themselves from that society.

The U.S. is a Republic. Look up what a Republic is. Every country in the world practices some form of democracy. For a example, in a " One-Party-State " ( which some called Communism ), democracy is practice during the times when officials are elected. The general population does not need to be a participant in such elections for democracy to take place. The U.S. has two major party and the general population is given the choice of one or the other. All the other minor parties so far don't stand a chance at being elected. This type of democracy is used in many countries but is it really the full extend of democracy or is it an illusion. If there are people feeling that their system is better, there are still many things which are wrong with their systems of so called DEMOCRACY. The U.S. IS NOT A DEMOCRACY and COMMUNISM has never existed on this planet. China is a Socialist nation and the old U.S.S.R. was a Socialist nation. Cuba is a Socialist nation. All of these nations had gone through different stages of SOCIALISM with the hope that after the last stage they will had entered into the first stage of COMMUNISM. The reasons I'm stating this is cause of the response given in this particiular forum. Another thing to clarified: When a nation is ruled by one person ( a ditactor ), that nation will have stability in all of its areas. The problems are the people that do not agree with the ditactor which are the opposition. The general population has nothing to fear nor will the regime ramdonly execute people. If you do not get involved in politics you don't have to fear it but if you do, you will be persecuted by the regime. How much freedom is practice in such nations is determine by how much infiltrations is practice by external forces which aims to destabilize the regime or the nation. If I misspelled ditactor you can spell it for me. :)

I see. So every single person who was executed during Stalin's leadership of the Soviet Union was involved in politics. And the Soviet Union definitely had "stability in all of its areas."

Yeah, that's it. Under Stalin the people had nothing to fear because the regime didn't randomly execute people. Everything was great!

Man are you stupid.

I'm going to have to agree with i_am_i and say that quoted statement by hvargas is possibly one of the most stupidly incorrect things I've ever heard.  Do you live under a fucking rock?  The Jews, Gypsies, and handicapped didn't have to do anything besides be themselves to get executed by Hitler.
