You know, today is the anniversary of the Columbine shootings, but apparently the two shooters were supposed to have done it the day before, but because someone made a mistake, they were delayed. So, the whole thing about them doing it to celebrate Hitler's birthday or for some other relationship to 4/20 is complete crap.

I've knew of the connection between the numbers 420 and weed but was unsure of the original reason for the post. When i read Elliebean's post i realised....the yanks do dates the wrong way round.  

Actually, I think most do it the wrong way around, even the Limeys, as I think the least significant bit should always be to the right (which is even specified in one of the many often ignored international standards, ISO8601).  For instance, today would be:

2010/04/20

which if combined with anything produced in the next 8000 years would organize just fine if sorted.

At least UK and surrounding areas are consistent in that the direction of significant bits are consistent within the date (D/M/Y rather than M/D/Y), but it's extremely inelegant as an item of data.

Though rare I must admit, though, the UK does properly use dates in decreasing significant digits as per the ISO occasionally which is just a reversing of the components so that they maintain a consistent order whichever direction they are choosing.  That's still better than Canada that has the ill luck to sometimes need the use of all 3 formats depending on associates and training (mostly when dealing with the US).

Than again, I'm one of the crazies that wishes we'd just go metric.

That's the way I date all my journal entries and artworks, whenever I get around to making them, except I'll sometimes carry it out to the minute or even second, as in:

20100420155820



24 hour clock, of course.





But that's because I'm a nerd.
