I found this site by googling atheist forums.  It looks like a nice place to discuss various things.   I was raised Roman Catholic but stopped believing the dogma when I was in Junior High.  I wandered around various philosophies and religions years until one day it dawned on me that I couldn't find the right religion for me because I was an atheist.

About 10 years ago I read a book called What the Buddha Taughtt by Wapola Rahula and finally discovered a religion/philosophy/lifestyle without a creator god or creation story.  Perfect for an atheist who want to explore the mind and its workings.  I follow the oldest tradition in existence today because I wanted to get as close as I can to the beginning.  The following is the goal and the practice of Buddhism:

The non-doing of any unskillful thing,
the performance of what's skillful,
the cleansing of one's own mind:
    this is the teaching
    of the Awakened.

Glad to have found this site.
