I don't believe in injustices but I agree that we are only fully capable of caring about ourselves. Everything always comes down to our will. The only thing we can do is worry about our responsibility to our own psyche. By giving, caring, loving for others we actually nurture ourselves through the very deed, but we needn't seek anything else in return. What works for me is remembering not to play quid pro quo.

You may also be interested in the philosopher Erich Fromm's idea of a perfect love (although he admitted love did not truly exist, this is the best that nature has to offer): That love is only love if we love all living things. It's not far off from the Pantheists' concept of an all-pervading unity.
