Yeah, I'll admit it's not that great of a song. It's not terrible either, though.

Now, I'm listening to The Unforigven III, which is one of the things I say whenever I hear somebody say that all the new Metallica songs are shit.

Anything with Michael Kiske is supreme, his version of Lost in Space is great, he is great on Farewell. Place Vendom and Kiske/ Sommerville is good too. But nothing beats The Keepers.

Metallica haven't done anything good in 20 years, MOP is brilliant, KIA is very good, RTL has a couple good songs, AJFA has a couple good songs but drags on. TBA is good for Hard Rock. Load and reLoad are TBA wannabes, St Anger is terrible, Deaf Magnetic is a distorted mess.

Bull.

QuoteMOP is brilliant,
Agreed.

QuoteKIA is very good,
Don't you mean "KEM"? And I disagree. Most songs on that album aren't very good.

QuoteRTL has a couple good songs,
Most, if not all, of the songs on that album are awesome.

QuoteAJFA has a couple good songs but drags on.
Bull. All of the songs on that album are rockin'.

QuoteTBA is good for Hard Rock.
Don't you mean "TBB"? And yeah, it's also an exceptional album.
QuoteLoad and reLoad are TBA wannabes,
Not really. Those albums have a completely different sound, and largely are forgettable.

QuoteSt Anger is terrible,
I've only listened to a couple songs on it, so I can't comment.

QuoteDeaf Magnetic is a distorted mess.
There are at least three-to-four good songs on that album.

Bull, yes.

I can't help but not like Master of Puppets as much as I like the two first albums.

Actually it's "KEA" (=Kill 'Em All) and I love that album.

Awesome album. In my opinion their best. Only weak song is Escape.

I agree with both of you if that makes sense.

No, it's "TBA" (=The Black Album) and it's not hard rock, it's heavy metal. People just get confused because it was their first non-thrash album.

Load has some good songs, ReLoad is my least favorite Metallica album. I only really like two songs and that is Fuel and The Unforgiven II. Most of the rest are completely forgettable.

I don't know why people hate St. Anger so much. Maybe because of the same reason everybody hates Justin Bieber. It's not "cool" to like it. I'll agree that the productions were awful and the vocals were bad and the whole new drum sound didn't really work out that well, but St. Anger still had some good riffs and it was aggressive. St. Anger, for Metallica, needed to be made.

QuoteDeaf Magnetic is a distorted mess.

Productions were bad, yes, but still a really good album. Metallica is back from that whole hard rock period. Make thrash again!

Oh, and metal up your ass.
The world's what you create.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Most people I've come across call it "The Black Box". And yeah, it's definitely metal, not rock. I don't know how you could mistake that for rock.

QuoteLoad has some good songs, ReLoad is my least favorite Metallica album. I only really like two songs and that is Fuel and The Unforgiven II. Most of the rest are completely forgettable.
The Memory Remains and Hero of the Day are pretty good as well, plus a few others I can't think of right now.

I want to know what people mean when they talk about production values. How does that translate into the quality of sound? How were Death Magnetic's product values bad?

Never heard it called black box before. Where does box come from? Definately hard rock, like ACDC and GnR.

listen to the last 20-30 seconds of The day that never comes, you can't hear anything other than distortion (sounds like your speakers are crapping out). The Dynamic Range on that album is 2 Db. On most albums these days it is 6 Dbs and pre 90s it was 12-14 Dbs. They compressed the volumes to get the sound recording as loud as possible.I know it seems a bizzare practice as your stereo has a volume knob. But they do it, when done to extremes it goes beyond the capacity of the recoding media and hence distorts. Deaf Magnetic is one of the worst on the market. If you are interested to learn more google loudness war.
There are better versions of DM on the internet, they are illegal versions mastered by fans and taken from the guitar hero game as it was a premastered version and do not have the clipping issue of the commercial release. Once you have listened to these versions you cannot tolerate the commercial version anymore.

Not a thrash album, more a cross between hard rock and heavy metal. Metallica havn't put out new thrash mateial on over 22 years. Which is ironic to have them headlining the big four thrash festival

Presumably because albums are boxed shaped.

QuoteDefinately hard rock, like ACDC and GnR.
lol , what. ...And Justice For All sounds nothing at all like AC/DC or Guns 'N Roses.

I've never done anything to be cool. Always just done my own thing. My favourite bands are Maiden, Megadeth, Helloween, Annihilator, used to be Sepultura back in the day when Max was in the band. Definately not the cool route.

I get a headache listening to St Anger. The drums are really that off putting. I also love listening to guitar music, guitar melodies and lead guitar. When they got rid of that, then the music lost a lot of its appeal. I did find the album too aggressive. I am not that pissed off enough to relate to it. It is a very hard album to listen to right the way through.

LegendarySandwich

You said it was hard rock, like AC/DC and Guns 'N Roses...I said it wasn't like either. Then you said the album was thrash. Then I said that AC/DC and Guns 'N Roses aren't thrash.

Now I'm confused.
