I agree.  It is more attractive to personify any animate or inanimate objects so that is more comfortable for us to understand.  In a nature documentary we revel when we see behavior in animals that is thought to be human and root for their survival.  I can't think of any cartoon that doesn't personify non human characters.  Can you imagine a religion started whose deity was a sphere or a block of wood that did not communicate with words?  That religion would be destined to fail.  Now, a deity that you can directly contact and is always there for you and looks like you, that seems like it could attract some followers.
