WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal agents have broken up a plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives said Monday.

In court records unsealed Monday, federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school in a murder spree that was to begin in Tennessee. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the school by name.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of ATF's Nashville field office, said the two men planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

The part I like (if one can like something about an assassination plot) is that the officials state these guys did not have the "wherewithall" to carry out their plan.

Even a very inept (and high on meth) skinhead can hurt people. Hate is such a pointless and destructive thing. I blame Palin and McCain for inciting the morons to act. I'm glad they were caught before anyone got hurt this time, but I wonder how many other people are nursing their hatred and planning to have a go at my future president. If I believed in god, I'd start praying for his safety.

I'm usually not one to blame someone for the actions of others, but in this case, you're right.  Palin (specifically) is to blame for this, the THIRD such arrest for threats against Obama's life.  I am frightened for his safety should he be elected, Zeus willing.  :)   I hope he's surrounded 3-deep with servicemen who are willing to give their life for him.  Violence will ensue because of the McCain/Palin sheeple.

One of the hardest weapons to defend yourself against is a nothing-to-lose fanatic on some personal crusade and high on a wide array of narcotics.  :borg:

my wife has been worried about stuff like this happening because obama is black and I kind of laughed it off.

what is wrong with people...

a listener called the radio station i work for and said we need to get rid of one of our morning show hosts. it is country radio station and the host is a obama supporter. the listener called the station's manager and said "what is she doin' on there, I ain't voting for no damn n!gg@r!!!"
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -cs

That is one of the things that keep me from going to States as a tourist or otherwise.

There are too many guns there and thus, too many idiots with guns. There are also those stereotypical rednecks, and I'd rather deal with a horde of muslims. Oh, and the presidential campaign seems to be all about god, blackmail and shit pouring.  :|

The US is really not as bad as you fear.  The media pushes the sensationalistic stories for ratings, which may make it seem like it is a shooting gallery here.  Yes, we have more than a fair share of evangelical gun toting nuts, but the majority of people are civilized, and there are many safe places to visit.  Personally, I have never touched or fired a real gun.

I just got back from my first trip to Europe, and I had my preconceived notions about what Europe would be like.  Besides the language difference and some cultural differences, what surprised me the most was how familiar most of it felt.  It was just people going about their daily lives, similar to the US.  What did not surprise me was that 100% of people I met in Europe were anti-Bush and pro-Obama.  Europeans were well informed about US politics.  McCain/Palin were mostly just joked about.

Oh, it is. It just depends on how deep you are willing to dig.

Not our media. The state owned channel does not care about ratings - everyone with a TV set still has to pay for it. So the information in the news usually holds high quality and is generally somewhat boring.

As I understand, thousands of people in the USA die to gunfire every year and it doesn't take that much to get a gun to add yourself to the statistic - one way or the other. I do not think the USA is a generally un-safe place, but the statistics are grim.

I like most Americans I know and there are places in the USA I would like to visit - safe or otherwise. Guns don't scare me, but idiots with guns disgust me. So my overall point stands. Some changes in the law and some adjustments to the (perhaps stereotypical) mentality in certain states are on my things-to-want list when it comes to the USA.

USA, Europe or North Korea - that particular point is the baseline everywhere.

Yeah... The US politics make for some good entertainment on our news channels. And I think at least in this country, you would be hard pressed to find a McCain supporter. Most people would like to see Obama in he White House. The rest have no opinion.
