I read a lot of articles  by atheists arguing their opinion, and what I find is that they  tend to put down Christianity. With so many religions in the world, I've always wondered why that is? For an anti-religious movement a lot of atheists sure make it seem like its solely an anti-Christianity movement.
Why is it that Christianity is the biggest threat to Atheism?
It bothers me cause it makes a lot of Christians proud... you know the "we matter cause everyone can't stop talking about us" way of thinking.

I'm not sure what you've read or by whom, but atheism, by definition, believes in no gods. Period. Anywhere. So christianity is not the biggest threat that I see to atheism at all. Perhaps you read a lot of articles by western atheists, who would know more about and deal more with christians on a daily basis?

In the U.S., christianity is the biggest threat to atheism simply because most people here are christian. Many of them are rabidly christian, the fundamentalists. Is that what you're thinking of or referring to? It would explain much of what you perceive as a christian-leaning attack by atheists.

Just trying to help figure out an answer to your question, but don't know if that helps at all.

That makes sense...either way I'd like to see more refutation of religions that make sense to me. Everybody knows the bible is contradictory, its time to move on to more challenging religions.

Cute, but once you understand the silliness of one religion the wackyness of the others is pretty easy to see. That is why you don't hear of someone getting out of christianity, being an atheist for a few years and then becoming a scientologist or something. Sure it happens, but not that often, learn to think critically and you are pretty safe from all religions.

I can see how it seems like that. I think it's because Christianity (in the US at least) is pushed on people the most. It gets annoying and it pisses people off. When it's pushed on me, I argue back. Personally, I used to be a devoted Christian, so when you say "religion" I automatically think of Christianity. I'm not anti-religious or anti-Christianity, but I guess you could say I am a little bitter of it. Atheists don't have religion, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are anti-religious.

I know exactly what you mean. I actually used to say things like that. If it wasn't this, they'd find something else to be proud of, trust me.

I think alot of it has to do with the number of Christians.I don't agree with any religion only for the fact so many people use God as they see fit.To many people have been mudered in the name of.And God is used so often to make money. It's not right anyway around it.

It's kind of hard to think about other religious zealots when the current batch is making legislation.  I was tormented and abused throughout childhood and adolescence by Christians - so maybe it's a little personal with me.  Also, I'm half Native American which gives me a sort of familial distaste for the religion that stripped my ancestors of their culture and language.  The marching around protesting everything human rights related is a big turnoff, too.  Not to mention people like the Phelps Phreaks draw attention to the destructive nature of Christianity.

It's also that one of their big tenets is to go out and make converts.  I've never had anything but Christians knock on my door or scream at me that I'm a Satanist.

The Torah, New Testament and Qu'ran have basically all the same types of basic contradictions and irrational (reasonably impossible) situations. And yeah, it's pretty easy. Still, that which can be found lacking in reason when discussing Christianity can be expanded elsewhere. Druids? They believe in gods and the supernatural. Hindus? They believe in gods and the supernatural.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.
