^ That trailer is so odd the movie is likely to be one of two things: great or godawful. I think it's more likely to be the latter, though. Even so, I will probably watch it, just because I like to torture myself.

I can't get past the concept. Apparently, according to reviews, the execution is also severely lacking. But it is strong on budget and special effects.

Hmm...I hope the popcorn won't be stale as well. :-\

Going to watch Aquaman this weekend. I hope it isn't as disappointing as Robin Hood was.

:watching:  Waiting anxiously for your review.  Not that a bad review means I won't go to see the beautiful swimming man, just that I may regret the expense of it.

;D Something tells me neither of us will regret seeing the beautiful swimming man.

You got that right.  In the meantime, I also cannot get past the concept of Mortal Engines.  Even if it was brilliantly done and acted, I'm not sure I could get interested.

I think I'll give Mortal Engines a shot, even if it's really weird. It looks a little like something out of my dreams.  ;D

No one

That movie where that guy has to do that to get that girl, because he did that other thing to lose that girl.

I actually saw Mortal Engines tonight. I wasn't thrilled to go originally but it wasn't a horrible way to waste a few hours.

Have you watched it yet? All in all, I thought it was an entertaining film. Don't want to give too much away though.

Not yet, it doesn't open here until the 21st and I probably won't see it till after the New Year.  Don't hold back on a review on my account, I love spoilers.

Ok, I leave a few spoilers out in the open, but just in case someone doesn't want to read spoilers for the film, I'll leave a small, inconspicuous warning:

***WARNING***AQUAMAN SPOILERS AHEAD!

It's not too late to stop reading!

You have been warned!

[spoiler]The beginning is a good place to start, right?

A wounded Nicole Kidman (I forgot the name of her character...) washes up on the rocky shore of a lighthouse. The keeper tends to her, and when she wakes up she introduces herself as the Queen of Atlantis to him, which he takes in stride. This is the first quibble I have with the film, if someone came to me and said they were the royalty and came from the long-lost city of Atlantis I would be worried for their sanity. Anyway he cracks a joke and accepts that the strange woman in his lighthouse is who she says she is. Eventually they fall in love.

Fast forward and the Queen of Atlantis is heavily pregnant. She gives birth to a son and they name the boy Arthur. It's an apt choice, and at least a couple of references to the Arthurian legend can be found throughout the movie. Some time later the lighthouse is attacked by Atlanteans who have come to retrieve her so she can marry the man she was running away from in the first place. She goes back to Atlantis, never to be seen again (or at least we are led to believe).

Twenty or so years later, Arthur is a grown man and the events of the prior DCU movie have already taken place. He is known as 'Aquaman', he saves submarines from pirates, he takes selfies with fans...he's a celebrity. But he blames himself for his mother's disappearance after learns from another Atlantean loyal to his mother that she had been sacrificed after the King had become aware of him. Arthur's half-brother, who is now the King of Atlantis, wants to wage war on the surface world and Arthur, being of both worlds, wants to stop him from doing so, even if reluctantly at first. He and another Atlantean woman (Meera) set out on a quest to retrieve a legendary trident which is hidden away beyond a portal somewhere in the deep ocean. He and Meera get to the portal, cross it and guess what? His mother had been stuck there for over 20 years, having not aged a day (the salt water must be really good for her skin). After fighting a colossal sea creature he is deemed worthy and pulls the trident from the grip of an ancient king's skeleton like Excalibur from its stone. He, his mother and Meera make their way back and Aquaman defeats his half-brother and takes his rightful place as king.

PROS: I thought the special effects were good (I watched it in 3D, and would recommend it) and full of eye-candy. Very colourful underwater places and beautiful swimming man. It is an entertaining movie and is possibly one of the best of the DCU, along with Wonder Woman.

CONS: Even though it was entertaining, don't expect a masterpiece. The plot was predictable and the movie running time a bit long, which made it a little tiresome at the end.

I give it a 7.5/10

There is an after credits scene which hints at a possible sequel in the future.

I want to see that one too. People whose opinion I respect rag on it, but high-budget rolling cities of death...

No but a small Bavarian city does. Is that close enough?
