Realizing your an atheist after spending a couple of decades being active in an evangelical church can be quite a shock.    I've been an atheist (wonder if I should really go for strong agnostic) for about 7 or so years now and it has been a somewhat empty experience from the standpoint of finding people of like minds.  Stats are somewhat against us since >90% of the people in this country are believers to varying degrees.  Anyway, it is nice to see a robust online community like this one where I can chat with intelligent life forms.

I have to confess that I have not given up religion entirely and am a recent convert to FSM--kinda hard to pass up a heaven with beer volcanoes and a stripper factory!     I hope that's ok.....I need something to fill the void and I think a steady diet of pasta and meatballs will do quite well!  I have no intention of proselytizing whatsoever, so no need to put me on ignore.

Aloha,

Don't give up, Kona... we're out here and we're increasingly more vocal, so keep looking for us.  I'm glad you found this forum.  It is informative and cooperative... much different than most atheistic forums out there.  I, too, often feel empty for others of a like mind and I also find it hard to find.

I know how you feel. I grew up Pentecostal and still have a fear of demons even if it's irrational. Sometimes things that are pounded into our head is hard to let go, especially when we were taught them at such an early age. I can see how kids can be turned into killing machines with that kind of treatment.

Hey Kona - welcome to the forum.  I've always been tempted by pastafarianism; mostly because I think it would be cool to dress like a pirate...
