Mark, I hadn't before seen the Darwin quote that's in your sig, "...direct arguments against Christianity and theism produce hardly any effect..."  Agreed, and by now it almost seems a truism that dyed-in-the-wool believers raise up their defensive armor even moreso under direct attack.  In recent years I'm tending to identify myself in "mixed company" by saying something mild, like, "Yeah, the more I learn about it the less excited I am with the regular churches and preachers and religion and stuff like that."
