Hi;

Glad to be here.  Pretty sure I'm a lifelong atheist.  At any rate I don't ever remember holding inside my head any god or religious figure or religious symbol any differently than I held figures and symbols taken from fiction.

And I'm also pretty sure I'm happy.  Except with mosquitos.  I'm unhappy with mosquitos.  They seem to have the instinct to fly into your ears just when both hands are fully occupied with a chain saw or draining oil from the wife's automobile.

But such little personal quirks aside, again, I'm glad to be here!

Yes mosquitoes grrrrrr.
I think I'll issue a Puddingal encyclical declaring their wrongness, or maybe a mosie squashing fatwa.

Anyway hello and welcome.

Welcome.

Mosquitoes are pretty awful. The little friggers.

But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

Hi and welcome to HAF.

I too dislike those mosquitoes ( I had to know ) .

Recusant

Hello and welcome to HAF, Inertialmass. It seems we have a consensus developing around antipathy toward mosquitoes.

Forget midgies, I hate chainsaws.  *Shudder*  Maybe I've watched too many horror movies, but there is something about the sound of a chainsaw that makes my hair stand on end.

Oh, and welcome!  ;D

Hey, thanks all!

I've skimmed a number of threads and must say it's pleasantly surprising to see the exchanges appear generally calm, well informed and interesting.

Ali, if it's any consolation my wife and I often use an electric chainsaw when we can get the soon-to-be firewood near the house.  It sounds sorta like a hair dryer running over a bumpy scalp.  Hmm, maybe I'll have to work at a better comparison...

Hello and welcome! I was just thinking about how gnats seem to love flying right for my ears.  Never had that problem with mosquitoes, but I feel your pain.

BOO  >:( I used to let spiders live in my room until one day when I was about 17 I woke up with a bite and a red line traveling slowly up my arm.  I went to the doctor and have killed spiders with reckless abandon ever since.

Welcome.  Especially chain sawing oil changing atheists.  Need more manly men.

I'm relatively new, but its a nice group.  Just be prepared to make use of you analytical reasoning.

Recently, while sitting outside, my wife suddenly reached over and smacked me across the head. I didn't flinch. At least this time it was to kill a mosquito and not because I said something dumb.

Anyway...welcome  ;D

Welcome to HAF. While I have never been a great fan of Minnesota's true state bird, I was at one time quite proficient at the lakeside mosquito dance. Considered going professional until I discovered cites and mosquito control.
It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against Christianity and theism produce hardly any effect on the public; and freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men's minds which follows from the advance of science - Charles Darwin

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the object of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a god, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism. - Albert Einstein

Religion is a by product of fear. For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity. - Arther C. Clarke
