Ahhh, yes, beautiful North Carolina! Bastion of freedom, democracy, lunacy, idiocy, and any other "acy" you can think of.

Looks like they're passing legislation into the state constitution that allows the state to deny global climate change. More specifically, they will deny sea level rising, by simply saying, "Nuh-uh!".

http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/plugged-in/2012/05/30/nc-makes-sea-level-rise-illegal/

Yeah, they're going to make it illegal to say that sea level is rising. Officially. The legislation will allow only a specific department to measure the sea level along the coast, and only when asked for by another govt department.

Will they do it by actually measuring it regularly and by taking all data into account? Pshaw! That's for amateurs. They'll do it by extrapolating linear measurements from...oh, screw it! Read the accompanying article and let your jaws drop.

The stupid. It hurts.

I wonder if someone with a holding of and plans for low lying land is involved.
Around here local government have to have regard for water levels when allowing development to avoid future liability.

..King Canute, anyone?

;D

Actually the interesting part in this is that he did this stunt to "demonstrate" the power of "god", and how little a kings authority matters against laws of nature (which he took as being governed by "god")....

When they've built the resorts and they get flooded out, it will be fun to watch the lawyers suing everybody in sight.

Haha, I've often made jokes like "There oughta be a law against having this kind of weather."  I hope I wasn't the one that gave NC the idea....I was only kidding, NC, you can't really make laws about Mother Nature.  I mean, yeah, you can, but she's a scofflaw and she won't listen to them.

Yep. Watch the finger-pointing and blame-laying. I'd buy tickets to that show!

The fuck? Is Tennessee and North Carolina in some sort of contest to see who can come up with the stupedest laws.

Between their legislatures and there priests these people are making the good people of Arizona look positively sane and magnanimous. I didn't think this was even remotely possible.

Now they flat out deserve to go under the sea.

I always like to joke about how since Southern USA was supposedly originally under the sea, it should go back there for the good of all of us. Now North Carolina is just asking for it.

I don't know if I'd go quite that far.  AZ still seems slightly crazier and meaner...

Ali, you are probably right, but, is there some contest that I don't know about. It seams that as soon as one state does something stupid the others must try to top it.
