Who really gets your goat? Who makes you want to do bad things to them?
Well.....Fred Phelps and his wolves were the first I thought of.
I think elevating my feelings to hate takes up energy that people I dislike are not worth.

I actually thought this, but I am human (of course, I'm not saying you are not). But there are people, like Phelps, that I find worthy of the emotion and the energy contemplating such is miniscule.
I don't hate people, but I do sometimes hate choices they make... like John Boehner's green tie on TV tonight.
OP: I think that the word "hate" here is being used in the loosest of ways, the lightest of ways, and hopefully that is your purpose, since you mentioned "getting your goat", and that doesn't equal the harshness of hate to me.
There are 4 classes of people that I "hate":
1. Ugly people (on the inside).
2. Dumb people.
3. Ugly people who think they are pretty (on the outside).
4. oregon ducks.
It would be easier for me to name people I like. I don't hate many people, just have a strong distaste for most. If I had to name a few people I really dislike I suppose I would say, Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace, Bill O'reilly, Keith Olberman, and nearly any other talking head.
There's a right wing shock jock I have strong feelings about, he's well past strong dislike on my love/hate spectrum.
When he talks I imagine the lips of a pompous fish.
He feeds people bullshit, they applaud and reward him for it.
He convinces people reasonable voices are the enemy.
I think he's a repressed/closet gay yet he nurtures hate for minorities.
Leaders of the country seek his approval.
I'm not above wishing him harm.
Ohh list time!
Ok in my real real life (and not just the one I play on tv)
There is a co-worker who is just a pretentous twit. He makes every single conversation with him convoluted. And he's just such a jerk to me. He was ok till he found out I was a Satanist. First words out of his mouth were 'You are going to Hell'. I told him...do you see where we work? This is Hell my friend.
Other than that I don't surround myself with people I hate. That would defeat the purpose of running my own life.
And in my tv land.
~Paris Hilton.
~Nancy Grace
~The Satanic e-mail stalker I had a few weeks past.
~ANYONE who abuses animals or children.
~Child Molesters and all the NABLA people in general.
~Terrorists
~Customers who treat me like shit. That's not foam in your beer buddy.
~Perpetual right blinker drivers. Yes. I hate you. HATE YOU HATE YOU!!!!!
I'd love to be noble and say that I don't hate people, but let's face it - there are some people I'd love to have alone for a few minutes.
A local child molester/kiddie predator in my town who is currently walking the streets, free. I have a special place for him in my mind. I'd enjoy five minutes with him, uninterrupted.
Pretty much anyone who would hurt a child or any other defenseless being.
Yeah, not so fond of those types.

but there are huge assholes out there and you guys have named the biggest of all
although there are more and list is long somehow if I even give them credit for thought it is too much effort and gives them crediblity so I can not even write the list!
Hate is too strong a word, but here's a list anyway.
Kelly Osbourne, a talentless charisma desert of a human being with a face like a dropped pie. For some reason it is assumed that people give a shiny shite about her opinions because she is the daughter of Ozzy.
Yuri Geller, cutlery vandalising pillock. Has he mentioned that he was mates with MJ?
Who ever gave Glenn Beck a job on TV.
Oh, and of course, everyone in the UK will agree with me on this botherless cranial uniwatt:

Yes, that should be a minor fix the first thing I need to do is upgrade the forum again because a new smf version was recently released. Life has been hectic so I haven't been able to find a few hours to make sure I upgrade the right way; it's apparently easy but since I haven't done an smf upgrade yet I need to read about the process.
I'd have to say that my current hate list would have to include in order of amount of hatred:
The guy who killed all those kids in Norway
Terrorists
Child molesters
The Pope
Christians who won't take no for an answer and insist on trying to "save my soul"

I would go with "most" instead of "some". I would have to say I strongly dislike most people. However, it may just be the environment I'm in (hence I've joined this forum, to hopefully have a community). I used to assume people were cool, but I've grown cynical and now assume the opposite.
A friend of mine and I were talking the other day about this very topic. We were trying to decide if it was something about us, something about everyone, or that is something that comes with age. I know that developmental/health research shows that the older you get, the less (but stronger) relationships you have. Perhaps this is accompanied (or exacerbated) by a cynical view of others.
I'm not afraid to say that I hate Michele Bachmann.
Alas, in the wise words of Dr. Cox (not directed at anyone)-- "Lady. People aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine."
The Pope is definitely number one.

I just can't stand her because she seems to think of herself as some Ambassidor of women. I hate her damn talk show, as I flipped through as an episode and she actually said women should try not to act "so intelligent" so a guy won't be turned off by her.
What?! Shut the fuck up. >:(
Tony Blair. Just for being Tony Blair, not especially for the foul and slimy deeds he committed. Just looking at him makes me feel ill.
My previous #1 hate figure was Edward Heath, for selling us out to Europe, but sadly the beggar died a natural death before he could be hanged.

I feel like I, unjustly, get labeled this because I am not afraid to challenge people's beliefs. I have a few religious (non)friends that assume that I hate them because they are religious. In fact, I rather enjoy their company. It takes a lot more than being religious for me to dislike someone. However, that is how I get labeled. For example, I have this really religious friend that is afraid to talk to me or hang out with me because he thinks I hate him. I LIKE HIM! The only time I've ever discussed religion is when he was bringing it up and most of the time we agreed on what we are talking about! I have never "attacked" anyone. Ugh. All large groups have a variety of views and agenda's. There are definitely a few sexists in the feminist movement. But to call all feminists sexist is going way, way too far IMO. Although I would much rather there was no need for a feminist movement at all and we just called ourselves humanists.

Haha, no problem, it just kind of jumped out at me as not quite fitting with the rest of the list. I agree with Tank, though, I wish it was referred to more often as "Humanism" as opposed to "Feminism", but I guess Humanism already has other connotations. (I took a "Women's studies" course in my undergrad and I kept driving my instructor batty because I thought it should have been called "Gender studies".)
Anyhoo, I didn't mean to derail. :D
Gender studies does sound better. I think allmen should take it, as it can make them more informed about how much both genders have suffered.
Don't wanna get off track too~~ *clops away*
I really dont hate anyone. I dislike the entire cast of fox news. Even when I was a believer I disliked them. If I am honest, Fox news may have been the first thing that made me question religion. I saw the absurdity of the propaganda they were spewing long before coming to my senses.

As for fourthmeal, I must agree. Fast food is the worst thing America has ever created. The only thing worse than eating it 3 times a day, would be 4.
^
The worst thing is, ever since mcdonalds has been opening in other countries like Japan and India, now they are having obesity issues.
Obesity in India and Japan! It's a bloody oxymoron.
Fast food should be made healthier or not sold at all. It is disgusting that I have to travel so far from my home to get decent healthy meals or a good health market.

I am actually going vegetarian in one week, after a 15 day juice fast to detox my body of all the fast food and processed foods I have eaten most of my life. I am not blaming fast food, nobody forced me to eat it, but when it is made a way of life, and advertised toward kids the way it is, you get the sense of how truly evil some of those businesses are.
Good for you. I have become a vegetarian this year. Your body changes a lot, and it can be difficult, but it's possible to live vegetarian.
I agree. They way fast food is constantly advertised to kids and through the media is terrible.
Not to mention, there is a mcdonalds, kfc, white castle, burger king, wendy's, etc on almost every 5 blocks.
I work as a triage nurse ....very very busy triage nurse
I can honestly say if It was not for obesity related comorbidities....I would be bored
I have flooded fluids into and given insulin to 350lb plus diabetics with unspeakable blood sugars...left the room for a break...come back to a room full of people and bags of fast food everywhere!
I swear they put crack in that shit what else couLd explane that behavior?....it has worsened you guys from my perspective...in the past ten years...at least in my job...I go from seeing a rare morbidly obese person with several direct diagnosis...to at least a third of my patients...and some days all of them...
Do I blame patients? Nope ...maybe early one when I was younger and thought life was easier!
Now I blame the crapfood industry...an economy and culture that does not allow folks time to prepare then sit down and eat healthy meals...i do not blame amy tired parent picking kids up either on the way to or home from how many jobs? Omg what else can you do?..there is the fucking drive through...kids grow to think this is food and voila....i have an obese 13year old I have to call 911 on because of blood sugars so high I feared for this childs brain...she was home sick...playing video games and esting crap...type 2 diabetes...
Bright side? People are trying!...i have seen way more pea patches this year! And even urban chickens again!...some one told me compostable crap containers are becoming mandatory in some cities...some one told me McCrapples has sliced apples in a baggie and milk....
Wow guess I have an opinion on tjis ...but good grief....fking "FOURTH MEAL?" Lets not even mention there is a famine? We really should send our third and fourth meal ..
However one more pointm about what I do
When I see someone for obesity related illness (triage is have but I do direct ambulatory nursing in the same place...we trade off to stay shap and avoid complacency and burn out...every job should try this)
Anyway...if I am caring for a wound on some ones foot...say a giant diabetic ulcer...and I am reviewing barriers to healing...many many people tell me "3fast food meals a day" ....their work ups show malnutrition fatty livers ...severe vit difficienies
Ok I will shut up
And go to the beach...I am going to get some seaweed off a nice clean beach and make soup ....but pizza first! My friend has a place and tosses her own!
Pizza can be a very healthy first, second, third, and forbid the thought...fourth meal!
Healthcare needs to be proactice not reactive...
I do not eat fast food....except taco trucks...everyone has their kryptonite!

All the "...."s confuse me.
What is with the attack on the fast food industry?
Fast food is a fantastic alternative for working families who don't have time to cook. It is also a cheap option for low income families. If you want to eat healthy and can afford it, great, but don't vilify an entire industry because you don't like the health risks.
I love when people use the fast food industry as a scapegoat for obesity, disease, and general unhealthiness. We know the risk, and if it affects our health, it's our own fucking fault.
Not everyone has the time or money to make their own meals and fast food offers a cheap and convenient alternative. What's the fucking problem? Try getting two meals for under $5 at the PitaPit.

Ok ok. In all seriousness I think the intentions for fast food was a very nifty idea. In fact I agree with all your reasons. My problem is that the fatties of America have not supplemented certain weekly meals with convenient fast food..they have crossed right on over to every single meal. The problem is the consumer for sure. But learning about the shady practices of fast food restaurants doesn't sit well with me either. I personally eat fast food about 4 days a week. I eat at Pollo Loco off the heart healthy menu. No fat. No fried. Nada. I have learned to be an educated consumer. It's the only place I go to unless it's Subway. I've given up completely on fast food. After having a heart attack at the age of 36 I've learned the dumb lesson pretty well.
Fast food ads are geared toward the children. And why? Because the children will then be a 24/7 all you can blab up close and personal commercial to the parent that will listen and give in. Is it legal? Sure. But it is ethical? Probably not gonna put them on the table next to Gandhi.
I place the blame on the savvy industry and the lazy consumer.
;_; Think Arnarchy, I am not attacking the fast food industry, but it seems dispicable that I need to walk about a mile from my neighorhood to get to A FEW healthier options. In a three block radius I hace; a mcdonalds, burger king, kennedy fried chicken (diff from kentucky) annd a Dominos pizza! Like seriously? If I want subway sammich, that is a mile away. It is annoying.
I only want more places in general to serve healthier food. If I have no choice, I get pizza. D:
I'm not too wild about politicians right now. I wouldn't say I hate them, but I do think the world would be a better place if the greedy, ambitious, and amoral were in positions that didn't allow them to wreak such damage. While a few are trying to do the right thing, the majority seem to only be interested in keeping their seats and gaining from selling their influence to the highest bidder. It's a shame, really, because we're living in a time of opportunity unprecedented in human history. We could do so much good, prevent so much suffering right now with the civilization we've built. It seems so horrible that we're bogged down in such petty nonsense.
I'm also very unhappy with soulless corporations acting only on the profit motive, with absolutely no consideration for the human element. Corporations like Monsanto, Dow, Haliburton, KBR, DynCorp, Lockheed Martin, Phillip-Morris, and BP are causing untold human suffering. These are corporations headed by boards of human beings, who consciously make the decision to place the value of profits over the good of humankind. What they're doing should be investigated and prosecuted instead of protected and praised. Again, maybe not hate, but certainly I feel some very negative emotions associated with them.
There are times I wish I could do more as an individual to correct these injustices. Unfortunately, against political and corporate power, the only real weapon is collective effort by the many.

Sorry about the heart attack at such a young age. I'm a bit worried about my own health, I don't think I have the healthiest of hearts. With that said, it is our own choice what we put into our bodies, just as you said. After that experience, you changed your eating habits and I imagine, have made other steps to live a healthier lifestyle.

Fast food ads are geared toward the children. And why? Because the children will then be a 24/7 all you can blab up close and personal commercial to the parent that will listen and give in. Is it legal? Sure. But it is ethical? Probably not gonna put them on the table next to Gandhi.
Yes they gear their advertising to children, just as many industries do. The toy industry doesn't advertise to parents. They instead advertise to the children in order to get them to pester their parents for this new hot toy. The parent is not required to give into their child's wishes, just as they don't have to take them to Popeye's when they start throwing a temper tantrum.
Businesses advertise to the most effective demographic. When it comes to many consumer products, companies target women, seeing as they typically do the most shopping. With electronics, they tend to target men.
If you notice however, since the downturn in the U.S. economy, fast food has shifted its advertising focus. They now seem to be advertising their cheaper meals, rather than advertising to the children.

I place the blame on the savvy industry and the lazy consumer.
I don't think there is any blame. Consumers have a right to be lazy and industry has a right to be savvy. Ultimately, the consumers are being made happy, even if it's at their own detriment because of the business being savvy by wanting to make a profit.

;_; Think Arnarchy, I am not attacking the fast food industry, but it seems dispicable that I need to walk about a mile from my neighorhood to get to A FEW healthier options.
That has to do with demand. Clearly the majority of the people in your area prefer those types of options. It is hard to compare things like this from town to town, but in my area I'm a 10 minute drive from a Dominoes, Papa Johns, at least 3 Local Pizza places, Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonalds, Burger King, Pita Pit, Canes (Chicken Fingers), Subway, Quiznos, Panda Express, etc. I'm sure I could name a bunch more, but you get the idea.
I'm curious as to what kind of city you live in. A mile within your radius will mean different things depending on the city. If you live in NYC I would expect there to be more options within a mile, but if you live in a less dense city, a mile is not that far. It aslo would depend on what area of the city you reside in. If you live on the outskirts or in a residential area, of course there are fewer options. If you live in the downtown area, there should be more options closer to where you live.
What I'm getting at is this: I don't know if the mile radius your complaining about is justified.
I live in a residential area and there are no food option other than a few sit down restaurants, bars, and connivence stores in my area of the city.
Well, sadly for me I live in a pretty spanish and black populated area, so I guess they just don't care about their health as much.
I do walk to the wealthier type area to obtain better food. I also live near a hospital, so the cafes there rock.
It seems the poorer the neighborhood the more fast food places.

And @ Sweet Death
Because the poor can't afford the healthier options. I eat off the dollar menu a lot when I'm broke and if there weren't fast food options close by, I would have to burn more gas to get to them. Also, produce is expensive and not filling.
This may seem a bit racist, but I don't care. I don't know many black people who like healthy food. They tend to eat soul food, which doesn't appear to be healthy, not that I have anything against that. A black friend of mine offered me some once and I wouldn't even try it because it looked so unappealing. They also love fried foods, as do I. If you live in a minority community, the businesses are going to cater to the minorities. They will cater to their food preferences and/or financial situations.
Al Copeland, the original owner of Popeyes, started his business by opening up shop in minority communities. He offered food his customers wanted at affordable prices. They were also very filling.
I don't think it's racist. It's merely a fact. As a Hispanic I understand my culture and our foods. It's really about cheap food and the only way to make it good is usually to add bad stuff to it! I mean plain beans or beans in bacon fat with cheese. The choice is easy. ;)
But... I also go to a Mexican market and pick up all my fresh fruits there quite cheap. You can get good fresh food. But then it's a matter of changing the cultural eating habits as well. We have to start in our own kitchens.

Don't criticize bacon. That shit goes well with anything. Have you ever had bacon wrapped green beans? There is no better way to make a healthy vegetable deliciously unhealthy.

I have absolutely no idea why people are grumbling at your posts. Given the relatively few people who can be arsed to post here some days I think all posts from all members should be loudly applauded!! << see that? Double exclamation marks!
People who judge other people by the way they eat. If people (like me) like fast food, and don't care (like me) about the side effects that may come along with it... Then why should you give a shit?
Seems awful close to the people who know they're right about god and want me to change to "save my soul".

I agree with this, though I'm much less irritated with people concerned over something in reality like my health. At the very least those who want me to eat less fast food have some link to reality through decent studies. We all make choices based on what we want: if eating food you like is more important than the results of eating that food, then that is your choice. There are other things to trade to prevent the negative effects.
I honestly don't care what OTHER people stuff down their gullet, I myself only want a few more places with healthier options. I eat junk food from time to time, but my only choices shouldn't just be mcdonalds and Wendy's.
Fast food can still be heathy and affordable. I am unemployed at the moment, but I shouldn't put my health at risk with so few affordable options.

I don't think Hidelight needs or want's to ignore anybody. This is an equal opportunity forum and that includes posting style. The Magic Pudding has a wonderfully idiosyncratic posting style, sometimes I don't find his posts easy to follow, but then I read them a few times and have to work a bit harder. On another thread you commented that if you don't like something just ignore it, maybe you should take your own advice? ;D

I agree with this. I do eat fast food frequently; however, sometimes I get tired of eating fast food. I would like more places that have healthier options.
Also, as far as people being too busy to actually make dinner, there are ways to get around that. There are healther, quick fixes that are on the market these days. Parents could also cook for the week on the weekend, so the food just need to be heated up. My mom raised my brothers and I, alone, and with a full-time job. She always found a way to cook for us.
One major problem I have is the lunches that get served at public schools. It's equivalent to fast food and it's usually just crappy all around
About fast food: I also think that people who come in with their unwelcome advice and insights can be annoying, but they most they can do is give you information and hope that you at least make an informed choice. I'd risk saying that most people probably don't really know what they're eating and drinking. They just know that it isn't good for them. They just don't know how bad...
^ it's hard to believe anyone could be that ignorant when most places are now forced to openly display nuritional facts.
I seriously think it is just laziness.

Yeah, I think so too. Or else people do know but don't really care, or perhaps think that they're immune from any possible bad effects (which I think is probably the case).
What I meant by people don't know just how bad is that that maybe if they took the time and energy to study nutritional health a bit more in depth, they would be surprised and scared out of eating certain things.
As for nutritional labels, at least here there are some companies who slyly add jargon that I doubt that people who are not already familiar with the terms will be familiar with. Many here use words such as 'lipid' instead of fats. Clever.
Once again, if I don't recognize the word , I don't eat.
Foods with sodium benzite, sulfate or monoglucose doesn't sound good for anyone. :(
I hate the bastard(s) who set fire to our shed.
Two years ago our charity got permission to use a piece of waste land. With help from local residents and a team from the Cadburys factory, they got it all set up; a group of learning-disabled folk have been raising flowers and vegetables on it ever since. Everyone benefitted: neighbours who were now next to an attractive garden, the disabled folk who put so much into it and got so much out, the rest of us who used to go down there to relax and chat.
Now the shed has been torched; the blaze took a lot of our tools and kit with it.
However the way the public has rallied round has been heartwarming: within two hours of the local newspaper appearing with the story, someone donated some cash. Now we've got more tools than we can possibly use plus a good sum of money. And some steel fabricators are going to make us a tough steel shed as a replacement.
That's so horrible, old git! I'm really sorry someone would do something so evil. >___<

If ever people deserved hatred it would be the WBC, not because they are Christian, but because they are evil.
It was just unbelievable the way they were treating Thunderf00t, when he was being completely civil.
And just how that old bitch was like "GODGODGODBECAUSEGODISREALCUZISAYSO!" was really a terrifying way of thinking.
As a believe Oldgit put it: it was godthink.
Probably a bit weird coming from ME, but I don't think I'm actually capable of hate.
Oh, I HAVE met people who deserved it (being deserving here is subjective to me, of course) but rather than hate, all I ever felt towards them was a kind of cold distaste.

Oh no, no worries...
I don't think any class of people is lower than the rest of us, unless hateful scumbags counts as a "class" of people, which I really don't believe. I don't troll anyone undeserving; by that I mean I have trolled, but only people that earn it. I recently trolled some people that may have
identified as theists, but it wasn't what they
were so much as the content of their posts. For instance, if you tell me "only sluts get raped", I'm gonna troll ya. But it has nothing to do with theism or atheism, more to do with common human decency. So fear not; if I react strongly to anyone, it will be after careful consideration and with what I feel is more than sufficient reason. I like it here, and don't want to screw up what seems like a great place to hang.

And a big +1 to that!
I strongly agree, Free-being. The laws that he passed - that went largely unnoticed by a media-addicted, issues-oblivious populace- stripped away some of the very rights America was founded on. His policy, a long-distance version of Hitler's "lebensraum" has made more enemies than it could ever discourage or hope to eliminate, and in the eight years he was in office, our allies opinion of us, as a nation and as a people, has declined to new lows. I fear that the view other nations have of America due to George W. will prove to have as much to do with the decline of the American empire as the economic collapse... if not more.
