This is a rather decent quiz to test your knowledge of english words, plus it has pretty pictures.
So let's see who wins a "Reading Comprehension Certificate" which will be presented to the boy or girl here at HAF who has the highest score!
Good luck kids, and remember to be honest when reporting your score.
(No retaking the test, or using a separate tab or dictionary to look up the words while taking, remember some god(s) you don't believe in may be watching)

I got a B+
A+. Though 24/30 seems low for that. I mostly bombed the first few and was certain I'd be too embarrassed to post my score here :)
29/30 A+
There were a couple of educated guesses in that lot but I owe my high score mainly to my English teacher at school who used to regularly give us quizzes like that!
28/30 for an A+ score.
None too shabby, if I do say so myself.
I got a B+. Considering English is my second language, a B+ is not that bad. :)
28/30. I didn't even know there were words for some of those things.
30/30. we used to take quizzes like this in high school English.
28/30, though a couple I got right were lucky guesses.
29 of 30, but a couple of them were lucky guesses.
Alright, so everyone here whose taken the quiz has received an A+ so far? Hmmm.
(Except myself and Mags, and I was cold and a bit tired when I took it, as I had just come in from being outside on my bike for a couple hours, so my test results should be curved some I think)
Anyway, at this point it looks like Bud's in first place for the ladies, and Icarus is in first place for the men. I'll probably wait until the end of today to post the winning certificates, just in case there was someone who's interested in taking the quiz who didn't see it over the weekend.
Thank you Bruno....But......I doubt that I have earned first place for men because, as previously stated, a few of my answers were wild ass guesses that turned out to be the right answers. As much as I would like top dog status, that is profoundly
unlikely, considering the intellectual, linguistic, and lexicographical capacities of some of our members.

Lex-i-co-gra...what!? :o
29/30, however, the process of elimination was used on at least two occasions.

It's a type of Lego's, you know the plastic building blocks, not sure why Icarus is mentioning it here...maybe he guessed at more of them than we realize? 8)

Mags, Bruno; Lexicography is the compiling of dictionaries, while lexicology is the study of form, meaning, and history of words. Both have the stem lexical; The words of a language..... from the Greek: leksikos. I swear I did not just make those words up.
You were both pulling my leg because you knew those words didn't you?
Random thought about linguistics: it seems to me that we have a spectacular membership. We have speakers of Portugese, Spanish, Russian, French, Brit speak, Norwegian, Aussie, Dutch, and American (which is the bastardization of proper Brit speak). With all that, we are capable of understanding one another because our speakers of other languages are also fluent in English. I wonder at Marias skills, she must have both Greek and Turkish language characteristics. Magdalena, a Spanish speaker, has to re arrange her verbs and nouns to convey the English sentences in an English sort of way. My long time virtual friend, a Lithuanian, has a language mixture of Polish, Russian, and Scandinavian. His language places great emphasis on syllabic emphasis. His Anglican name would be Justin. But his Lithuanian name is pronounced Yus TEE nas. My screen name would be Ik a ROUS. How ever can we hope to understand each other? It seems that Justin has perfect English that he can translate to his own language with accuracy and aplomb. I have been led to believe that in order to be fluent in another language, one has to be able to think in the other language. Those of you that can do that, my hat is off to you.
