Moon's Craters Give New Clues to Early Solar System Bombardment

ScienceDaily (Sep. 16, 2010) â€" Take a cursory look at the moon, and it can resemble a pockmarked golf ball. The dimples and divots on its surface are testament that our satellite has withstood a barrage of impacts from comets, asteroids and other space matter throughout much of its history. Because the geological record of that pummeling remains largely intact, scientists have leaned on the moon to reconstruct the chaotic early days of the inner solar system.

On the radio this morning there was a discussion about this and in particular that the research shows where to go on the Moon to find the oldest rocks, just when NASA ain't going anymore. Oh well, hopefully the Chinese will be able to make use of the data.

Not only will they get there, they will make camp there, and store some of their over-populated country on it.
