Magnetricity?

Spin ice?  Magnetic monopoles and magnetic energy currents?  I'm having a time trying to wrap my head around this one; it's really amazing.
I'll be the first to admit, it's not quite as exciting as the carbon nanotubes in Ultima22689's thread, but it's very intriguing stuff.  Who knows where this might lead?  Maybe nowhere, true, but  for us technophiles, these are very exciting times.

Ha, I hope they do find some application for it but yeah, the stuff that is being done is positively amazing. Has there ever been a time when technology has been making so many breakthroughs at once?

Kurzweil may be a little loony toons but he HAS to be on to something with all of these discoveries and technologies popping up all over the place.
