Tomorrow, 16th September 2023, is the first anniversary of the murder of Mahsa Amini. She was taken into custody in Iran for wearing the wrong clothes. She was beaten and died as a result of those beatings.

Who on Earth would arrest and beat a person for wearing the wrong clothes? Never doubt the evil of Islam nor the damage  it does to its followers.

Never forget Mahsa Amini.

Asmodean

I've answered this very point in the obituary thread. Rhetorically, rather than directly, but yeah... Who, above the age of beating up the kid in class, who has them dental braces, does that?

Still, it seems to be the norm in certain societies rather than the exception. I wonder if "they" look at "us" and think "WTF?!" every time "we" stand by and do absolutely nothing when someone burns a Quran? It's a rhetorical question, of course. "They" very much do.

totalitarian systems will always be with us.

sadly, it is up to the iranian peope to depose their oppressors.
more abuses are certainly in store before that happens

It is one for the almost a laugh but really a cry category, it's so absurd.
The morality of the morality police is OK with killing young woman.

WTF? You've gone all NoOne and made me pause my movie and Angelina is in trouble.
It's utterly human for humans to cherish their children and to extend this at least somewhat to the children of others.
Humans do keep letting the creeps get control though, in some places.

I agree. But what animals will do what some humans will do when it comes to considered violence to support an idea? That is a singularly human trait.

is that intelligence, though?

look at gibbons. they have lived in harmony with their surroundings for millenia. an island in a zoo with a family.of gibbons remains pristine-- undamaged foliage, no debris of destruction. . .  an adjacent island with more intelligent chimpanzees is a moonscape. no living plants remain, the trees and branches broken and discarded.

which is more intelligent? how is intelligence defined?

if intelligence results in humanity living stunted lives or destroying itself, are we actually intelligent at all?

Ye of course, maybe not quite intelligent enough, or a bit too much.
