Any suggestions where to meet smart atheist women? Where/how did you meet your current partner? I haven't dated in a looooooong time. Ideas for getting me laid (yes, I'm a guy) will be very appreciated!

Go to Prague and pay for it?

Failing that, take up some sort of class, something that you'd like to do. Could be dance, poetry or karate classes. Lots of people to meet there.

You could try speed dating. Almost guaranteed to pull that way.

Prague, eh? I'll Czech it out!

I've heard of speed dating. I'm not what you'd call a classical beauty but I can turn on the charm. People really hook up on those?

As for going through that or classes, how quickly should I bring up my atheism?

You'll have to discuss that with her! :D

I know two couples who met whilst speed dating. One of those couples have been married three years now :)

Do you really have to bring your atheism into the conversation at all? To be honest, i'd feel a little uncomfortable if a girl i'd just met started telling me how atheist she is. Does it really matter which way they swing? Just as long as you are both attracted to each other and are compatible, the rest should just be topping, shouldn't it?

Atheist women can be found in universities, libraries, museums, certain concerts and performances (think less Coldplay and more Evgeny Kissin performing Chopin), and other more 'highbrow' types of events or locations. Also, you can look for weddings of atheist friends and hang out in atheist circles. Avoid churches.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

Well I think it should be talked about.Of course not at first. But if you end up marrying this person and have children you have to agree on what to explain to the child. And how you will answer their questions as they get older.

I am so checking that out when I get home! Thanks!

Will, my estranged wife is a university professor. Hooking up with a scholarly woman is a tough nut to crack, though. Students are another thing, but I'm a bit older than most of them.

As to discussing atheism, it's an essential part of my nature. Few things turn me off about people more than nutty beliefs.

I agree with karadan here - but try an evening class.  You can often find older, more serious students there.

Not sure about the karate class if you want to get laid soon...she might be a black belt. ;)

I met my husband in college...but I do know a couple people who attend singles meetups (they also have atheist/free thought meetups) through www.meetup.com

Thank you, Laetusatheos. I've got you beat: met my wife in high school. For some reason, I've never been on Meetup before. Oh, I remember why now. I'm antisocial.  ;)

I've met my current partner on the train. Well, I was sitting with my head phones blaring so we didn't really speak that time, but then we met again and so on and so forth.

As for the how-tos of finding a partner, I'm afraid I'm totally incompetent in that area. They have always found me, you see...

Quote from: "winterbottom"You're damn near perfect, winterbottom!  Get yourself a new hobby, start interacting with more people (difficult sometimes, I know, but in this case you really need to do it) and just be yourself.  Women will be drawn to you.

Good luck!    :D

Homina homina, momma! I have a few hobbies, motorcycling being my favorite--but it's more of a guy thing and the women who do ride tend to be Harley dirtbags. I also enjoy philosophy, art films, and foreign cuisine. Unfortunately, writing about atheism and religion is the hobby that occupies most of my time.
