I don't think Michael Jackson was all that. Sure he could moonwalk, but so what? Listening to his songs would do nothing but bring tears of boredom to my eyes.

I was anti MJ back then, looking back though I concede he was a Talent, I just didn't like what he was doing.

I feel the same way about the Beatles' music. I don't like it, though I recognise they revolutonised the art. Don't know if the same thing could be said for MJ though... :notsure: I don't know.

I agree with both of you. At school we had two camps: Beatles and Rolling Stones fans. I was in the Stones club.

I've heard of the Stones/Beatles divide, I was born when they were founding so I was too young to be caught up in it.
Douglas Adams talks about it, he was a Beatles guy and he reminisces, Stones fans were considered knuckle draggers.
It's all pretty stupid really, choosing one of the two best at the exclusion of the other.  In group out group more important than music obviously.  You'd have to include Lennon and McCartney as knuckle draggers.  There's "The Stones In The Park" concert, McCartney is watching.
Then there is this

Imagine being there!

Yoko joins the band for the next song...
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

Did I miss this thread for all this time?! I did, didn't I? Ok...

Non-political... Well, fuck.  :(

Ok... Football is bloody boring, and you can pick the football.

The ball things are fine, if you do them.
What did you do on the weekend?
I played snoz ball, in the local local mixed team
we lost but I kicked it twice
Good for you.

What did you do on the weekend?
I watched the game, obviously.
Snortzotzen was back after his injury
rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb
rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb
Ye and the coach, like I said before
rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb
rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb rubarb

I'm not entirely sure if my use of "rubarb" is appropriate...
I could have use blah blah
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

MY weekend was spent reading Enlightenment Now by Steven Pinker, thanks for asking.

So you're enlightened now?
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

Asmodean

Oh, you have NO idea! All shiny 'n shit.  :smug:

Good book, if I do say so from an echo chamber. A tad optimistic here and there, but it does say something about why the enlightenment values are worth fighting for.

"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

"They're not the same at all!"

YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—"

MY POINT EXACTLY."
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

Sometimes there's a very fine line between the avant-garde and the avant-garbage.

Here's my Unpopular Opinion toplist (in no particular order ):

Jim Hendrix was supremely talented but rarely produced musical output of good quality.
Platitudes are nice but mostly unnecessary.
Mourning death is selfish and burdens other people.
Coulottes - WTF? So utterly unflattering.
Body piercing all good except nose rings. Stop it - it's just ugly.
White is not a colour. It doesn't belong on walls in a home.
Loud motorbikes should be banned - it's offensive noise pollution.
Cats. Haughty little fuckers. Keep them away from me for their own benefit.
Cous-cous. Seriously?
The American propensity for self promotion whilst denying the existence of fallibility of any kind. It's laughable and serves only to project the opposite of the 'cool' they're trying to portray.  I laugh in your stupid face - looking at you, particularly, rap culture.

When one sleeps on the floor one need not worry about falling out of bed - Anton LaVey

The universe is a cold, uncaring void. The key to happiness isn't a search for meaning, it's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually you'll be dead!

Asmodean

I agree with several points.

Lets form a non-political party and start legislating!  :lynch:

I can respect your opinions Siz. Except for cous-cous. That stuff is delicious.

Yeah! Well, with the right things added, otherwise it is as boring as any other wheat based product - boiled spaghetti is yuck without a sauce. Ah, cous-cous with spiced fish, chopped tomatoes, chopped celery leaves, peas, garlic, herbs . . . A meal in itself!
Tomorrow is precious, don't ruin it by fouling up today.
