My father is visiting, which means I have to put everything I have to do on hold and become a tourist guide in a city with almost no tourist attractions (I would make a lousy tourist guide -- I have no patience for that sort of thing). Visiting the same things over and over again can be very tiresome.

Let's see...

Public Market. Check. For the thousandth time.
Art museum with weird art. Check. Argh.
Seeing an Imperial coin collection at another museum. Check.
Walking downtown. One does not simply walk downtown carrying their cellphone, plenty of petty thieves roaming that area. I can't live without my cellphone. Check.
Walking in a deserted park also full of muggers.
Going to bars in the evenings to see him drink bottle after bottle of beer.

::) Fun.
I hate, hate, hate playing tour guide. Most of the places around here that people want to see are over-crowded and over-priced. Plus, as an introvert, I usually don't have the mental energy required to deal with other people all day long. I do enjoy meeting up with my friends, but it takes me a day or two to recover.

Management, is an old Latin term that roughly translates to, incompetent moronic nitwits, I believe.
I believe you are right. After a decision in May that almost caused us to miss our delivery metric in July, you would think that our site manager would have learned. But no. I found out Thursday that she has made yet another decision that is going to come back to bite us in the ass. Of course, what would those of us who actually do the work every single day know about it?  :eyebrow:

Ooh, yeah...  I used to work for a very large IT services company.  My team supported a large number of designers and draftsmen using 3D graphics programs, like Unigraphics and Ideas.  We had our own Unix heads on team, I was one of the PC specialists and we also had DBAs on strength.  We used to take turns manning the help desk and very few problems could not be solved while the customer was on the phone, it might need me poking my head over the partition to ask one of the Unix heads or DBAs to do something but we got the job done.  Our group had the highest customer satisfaction rating and was the most profitable in the entire company.

Then management decided that it would be better to "leverage" the separate silos of expertise directly (instead of only when we had a really difficult problem) so they abolished our entire team.  They transferred the helpdesk function to a call centre in India, so no more talking straight away to someone who knows the system for the customers.  They moved the Unix functions to the main Unix group in the USA and the DBA function to Singapore.  I had lunch with a couple of my previous customers about twelve months later when I accidentally bumped into them in a cafe near their office.  Apparently all those things that they used to get fixed on the spot take a minimum of 48 hours now.  Even password resets.  Management rules!  LOL

I have been in both the management role and the productive employee role.  It is a sure thing that management, who often know little of the actual function of the product or service, makes decisions that are counter productive and often damaging to the whole of the enterprise.   ...........In other parlance: "shit for brains"

Too many of our leaders and supervisors are inadequate chess players.  The chess game is a cause and result game.  The game is one that require the anticipation and analysis of the result of several moves ahead. Why do so many managers and bosses not recognize this simple concept?

Perhaps those comments remind us of our stable genius  POTUS and others of similar stripe.

As part of an onlinr link-up the bosses of my old company got together all the "creatives" - including this lowly lab tech.

The headline question was, "What can we do to match the advances our competitors are making?"

The answer was given within five minutes and the meeting folded. "Get senior managers with the same strategic skills and guts as the others!"

Just to be clear, when I talk about "management" I am referring to the higher ups. The generals who have never set foot in the fox hole. I know plenty of line level managers who are without a doubt, worth their weight in gold.

Went into the doctors for a routine medication check up and mentioned some random pain I've been getting. It wasn't bad but they wanted to run some tests including ones that involved needles. I told them that I didn't want to do anything today because I hadn't eaten anything yet have to drive to work immediately after and I don't do needles. Well, I had to do it anyway and everybody was shocked when I went down like a ton of bricks. Now I'm sitting in a room with some coffee and I'll be late to work because I am not driving like this.

Yeah I probably should have been more firm, but I am awful at that. I was just surprised that they were running the tests there since it was a nurse practitioner and they usually just send me to the lab at the hospital.

In other news, I still feel brain dead and I'm just watching the clock until 5. It tool me twice as long to type this than it usually takes haha.

Yes. I mean, I knew that I needed to get these done and I was majorly procrastinating. It's not the end of the world but I just want to curl up with a heating pad and sleep the rest of the day.

That's a bit of a shame :(

I totally forgot to include this bit in the original post but its kind of funny. The doctor misread the nurse's notes and asked me how my pregnancy was going. I think I almost had a heart attack.

Yep. It's why I try and schedule any tests for days off and make sure I have someone to drag my sorry ass home. For a nurse's daughter, I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to the doctors haha. On the plus side, I weigh less than when I graduated high school.
