Too much garlic

Well, at least we know your not a vampire.

Ah, but it is the flowers that are vampiricidal, not the corms. Walk through enough wild garlic and no one wants to know you. Er, I mean, er...

Do you like garlic?

(Damn! Can't claim "vampiricidal" as a neologism because "vampiricide" has already be coined!)

Since my grandmother is in a nursing home now, we have spent the weekend getting to grips with the attic in her house.
Holy S**t! The amount of stuff two people can accumulate over 60 years and two kids....

At least I found some good shit in amongst all the old calendars and telephones and curtains and what-have-you.

And we've barely scratched the surface...

Tease! What was the good stuff?

Well, first I found three sets of gold cufflinks in a drawer.
Then a book about submarines.
Then, my departed grandfather and I have the same size feet, so his nice winter shoes came with me. And his best gloves for good measure.

The real find, however, was an old but very good and sturdy hiking backpack with a metal frame that really would be perfect for big game hunting expeditions.
Shame I can't get in on the moose hunt this year....

It's nice to have things that remind you of someone you care about but always a little sad whenever you see or use that reminder.

I've done this with my grandparents entire house over the course of a week. We had to make it pretty quick, but we would find ourselves just sitting there smelling old coats, tears streaming down our faces, laughing at ourselves, wondering over weird things that we found, remembering with pictures and family "artifacts". It was a wonderful last memory of my grandparents.
I hope you enjoy your cleaning job as much as we did!

My sister-in-law asked me to check the six 4TB external hard discs of my dead brother for useful data, like insurance information, etc. What I found instead was 18TB of hardcore porn. One hard disc I took to the police, because it contained child pornography. I only played one video for just a few seconds and it made me feel sick. Hopefully they catch those bastards, who made these videos (most of them seem to originate from eastern Europe). My opinion about my brother has changed dramatically for the worse.

I had an MRI scan yesterday.  Four and a half hours at the hospital, including 1¼ in the actual machine.  Still, I mustn't moan - I got the necessary scan free and the staff were lovely, so the legendary delays of our health service are a small price to pay.

And I hope the scan found nothing untoward?
