I do care about child abuse, even uf i dont like children. I consider forcing a child to attend child is a mild form of abuse.

Random note: My sister graduated from high school last Friday. Brevard County (in Florida) now has most of their graduation ceremonies outdoors because some students and parents objected to where the ceremonies used to be: at a local church. Apparently the church had minimal Christian symbolism but there was a cross on the wall.

The invocation speech at my sister's graduation ceremony (she went to a public school) was a very Christian prayer written by, I believe, the student who presented it. "God" and "bless" were said no less than 10 times. Knowing about the cross controversy beforehand, I was COMPLETELY baffled the student was able to give that particular invocation speech. I was not happy.

I THINK it's allowed because the presenter is a student.  If it was from faculty/staff, it would be a different story.

Sure, you could.  Among friends, perhaps. That said, my mom and I have a pretty close relationship, but that's even TMI for us, let alone Buddy and her mom.

Are you guilty of a teeny- weeny modicum of exaggeration here?  Child abuse wreaks dreadful and lasting damage on its victims, and  I think this comparison trivialises  the horror it entails.

I'm a bit torn on this issue, really... Religion, you see, it can cause dreadful and lasting damage, or you can be the proverbial duck and it the water. It's the same as with every other form of abuse, although chances of getting out of it mostly unscathed are better than with, say, sexual abuse.

I think I would call all forms of indoctrination of kids abusive to some degree, especially if the kids are old enough to have an opinion on the matter.
