I'm going to borrow Churchill's quote and twist it a little. In societies where the average voter is a politically alienated person, with little to no formal education, who will sell their vote to a populist or demagogue for a bag of rice or a piece of clothing how can democracy work?

Yes, it's true I do not have a very high opinion of the average Brazilian voter, but the last election showed that the average voter is not someone who sells their vote for a bag of rice or an ugly cap. A huge part of the voters who put the shithead Bolsonaro in power were middle-class idiots tripping on their fear of :panic: 'the communists' :panic: taking over and giving their money and belongings to the poor. Yes, it seems :panic: 'the communists' :panic: are the great big boogeymen of this century as well. ::) Even the poor who benefited from social programs were against social problems. Go figure.

The solution? Fascism of course. [/sarcasm]

But anyway...in a country capable of being manipulated to that level of stupid and putting someone who is clearly a psychopathic wannabe dictator in power, wouldn't it be better to limit the amount of power one shithead can have?

In Brazil it should be a form of Parliamentarism, not Presidentialism, IMO. Especially because in general institutions are weak and can only brake the President so far.

I hope some things change in the future.

Icarus

The Churchill pronouncement is sadly close to the mark.  My nation is overpopulated with people who are easily persuaded that the moon is made of green cheese and it was caused by all those socialist democrats.  The dumbass syndrome is not an exclusively American trait.  Silver has assured us of that unpleasant reality.

I cite Boris Johnson as an affirmation of Icarus's point.
