My father, a clinical Psychologist of many years, once elucidated his approach to therapy by saying:

"You must be willing, in each case, to approach the person in treatment as the exception, rather than the rule."

I'm willing to bet the application of his advice is wider than the narrow limits circumscribed by his profession...
I don't think it is, but it should be. This axiom should apply to every child, always; particularly in school.

I should have said the potential application of his advice...not the actual degree to which it is currently implemented.  I see it as proscriptive, rather than descriptive.  Anyway, I agree with you, particularly with regard to children in school.

Give a person a reputation to live up to, it is very motivating for them (me).

I have a somewhat different angle: Give people someone else to fail. Preferably, someone that matters.

Ask and ye shall receive ;D

This is how I do it:

1)  Click the handy-dandy hyperlink button from your forum toolbar thingy.

2)  Type the message that you would like visible between the url tags

3)  In the first url tag, insert a "=" directly behind the letters "url". Do not add a space.

4)  Paste the web-address that you would like to link to directly after the "=" in the first tag. Make sure there isn't a space between the "=" and the beginning of the address.

5)  Hit preview to make sure you didn't shag it up somewhere along the line.

6)  Post  ;D
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.
