Well... The pole is actually irrelevant in calculating the probability of a puma being born with wings, but where does 50/50 come from? Like... The very first of many genetic mutations needed is what... Less than 3% likely, and you multiply from there, so the number goes down, not up.
...How DO stupid people do their math?

How DO stupid people do their math?
5 out of 4 people have trouble with math. It's hard.
If you use numbers and equations to prove a point,
5 out of 4 people...:snicker:
If you use numbers and equations to prove a point,
You're missing the point.
If you use numbers and equations to prove a point,
You're missing the point.
I don't think so. The point is that evolution is obviously a ridiculous concept because putting a pregnant puma on a telephone pole would, according to it, yield an equal ratio of winged offspring to wingless. As if!
In the process of being made, this point is supported by a specific mathematical claim. That's perfectly OK, as long as the calculations actually get done, even if they are done wrongly. If not done at all, that same point can be made without using offspring ratios as a helper. To a person who does have those two metaphorical brain cells rubbing against each other, misuse of data demonstrated here only serves to add another level of ridiculous to the whole thing.

Actually, I did read a research article some years ago about self-perception and intelligence. The study seemed to indicate that those with below average IQ tend to consider themselves "as smart as the next guy." My personal experience tends to agree.
From there, the very unintelligent think themselves average, the average think themselves a bit dimmer than they actually are, the smart... Usually know how smart they themselves are, but are prone to attributing intelligence to themselves and especially others, which they do not possess.
.
I do not fully agree on the basis that truly smart people are fully aware that they do not know what they do not know. In fact the really smart people have no trouble or hesitation in pronouncing themselves ignorant of most of the worlds collective knowledge. When one thinks of the library of congress, for example, it is easy to be humble despite ones superior IQ.That is certainly true, if not quite what I was talking about, intelligence not being synonymous with knowledge. It does come close though, so it's certainly something to consider. The problem I see is that for the more intelligent, there may be a difference between general self-perception and calculated response when "pressed" into it.
Look at this shit^^^ this shit makes no god damn sense. The sun light travels in a narrow cone pattern instead of in all directions like it REALLY DOES
Er, how many hemispheres does a flat surface have?Hemidiscs. :smilenod:
As to the rest... FES FAQ (http://wiki.tfes.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions)But... But... :(
In short, they have no posted explanation for why the sun moves back and forth. The Earth is a radial magnet, though, because reasons, and I'm sure it's pulling it, also because reasons.

Oh, it's real (http://www.macroevolution.net/human-origins.html#.Upmw19K-18F)
If you rightfully have zero desire to wade through that steaming pile of horseshit, the jist is that some dude who is off his rocker but happens to hold a PhD said some bizarre stuff and was roundly shouted down by every other scientist everywhere, but not before creationists got a hold of it and started going "SEE WE TOLD YOU IT MAKES NO SENSE!"
All I can say is that I'm beginning to get very, very tired of so-called “scientists” and their groupies thinking and talking like religious fanatics, and of existing “acceptable” scientific theories increasingly taking on the stained patina of dogma. McCarthy appears to have the credentials; why don't those who disagree with his “outlandish” conclusions answer him with scientific rigor, rather than ad hominem?
Mammals do share large chunks of their genetic makeup. We even share a fair bit of it with like... Pine trees. Doesn't mean that you can stick your penis into a hole in a tree and produce an ent.
With big rocks. Those come from sticking penises in the ground, or so I hear. :sadnod:
For one, chimps and pigs cannot physically have offspring.
Honestly, it does surprise me how some people fall for absolute garbage as easily as they apparently do (I don't personally know any such individuals) and then how hard it is for them to "fall out of it" when presented with the evidence to the contrary. Is this image animated?

It's not, but our human eyes and brain interpretations make it seem like it is. In the same way that we humans are susceptible to optical illusions, our thinking is susceptible to logical illusions. That is why we need to utilize logic and learn fallacies, because it doesn't matter how smart a person is, we are all susceptible to irrationality. Now, some people won't even question that they are looking at something that only seems logical, and even when it is pointed out that it is not, they tend to deflect criticism rather than vetting it. Then they find smart people who also fell for the same logical illusions, some of them smart enough to come up with seemingly solid arguments for them.
That is how people fall for absolute garbage.

People I think naturally protect their current beliefs, because being gullible is a bad thing, and an honest evaluation is difficult and takes time, and for me and I'm sure at least some other people, it takes practice. Out of the few choices, just keeping the original belief, maybe altering it a little, is the path of least immediate resistance. I don't agree with it (and wish it was much less common), but I understand it.
Yeah, it sucks that our brains work like that. With some effort and time we can train our brains to operate better. Just like talking, reading, mathematics... etc. we should be teaching children (probably after 12 years old), how to apply logic and how to recognize fallacies. I think it's weird that logic is such a small part of school.I think they should start earlier than 12 years old. I think we should start teaching children how to apply logic and how to recognize fallacies the minute they are born. :notsure:

I'm not against that, maybe slowly teaching logic by starting simple and getting more complicated as they age.Yeah, it sucks that our brains work like that. Aliens landed and offered mankind all kinds of things, the end of food shortage,, transportation to new colonies etc. But they were careful not to let humans onto their ship until just before departure. However an agent go on, took photos and got back off.
One of the photos was of a book and, after weeks of intensive work, it's title was translated as "How to serve humans". Seemed good, until they translated the blurb on the back - it was a recipe book!

Wicca is only about 70 years old, so it wouldn't be them. It's like the new testament of witchcraft meets Scientology.

Right. My point is there were no Wiccans prior to 1955 or so. "Wicca" is not an umbrella term for pagans of any era any more than "Lutheran" can be used as an umbrella term for Christians.
You said "some Pagan cultures, like Wicca..." and also referenced Shaman which Wiccans don't have, then clarified by saying you were talking about "old religions of Europe before Christianization." If you didn't mean it as an umbrella term for old world Pagans I'm not sure what you did mean.

OH my god, i just read this and I love it!Ah, yes! This weekend, The Asmo thinks Him that He might go for a blow job from Satan with no teeth. Between reading His ridiculously fat physics book accompanied by His ridiculously fat university textbook with which to explain the first one, and do let's not forget Resident Evil 7 - the first Resident Evil game The Asmo is inclined not to like.

That image is based on ignorance. The path of light on the ocean is caused by sun glitter on the waves; a smooth body of water will show an almost perfect reflection--not a path of light. It has pretty much nothing to do with curved vs flat surface.

This is the only video in his series I watched so when, after all the "omg, it's like egg is full of blood!", like it was some reaction that miracoulsly caused blood to form, he says he injected his blood into the egg I literally laughed out loud.

I don't know much about physics that I can verify but apparently, if you're a particle going near the speed of light, earth looks flat. But that's not what flat earthers say. They say it's visibly flat from here and that round earth is all a conspiracy.

Er, at the speed of light, as I understand it, everything looks flat - in the direction of your travel at least! Just as you would look flat to a stationary observer on Earth - it's all relative.

Sic in the name of The Asmo!Well, yes. Facepalm and all that, but the explanation seems a little misguided also. Newtonian gravity pulls things towards the center of the Earth. Einsteinean gravity states that it's the curvature of space that causes objects going in straight lines to orbit each other. By extension, it's the space pushing us towards the centre of gravity.

It's subtle, yet the difference is rather profound when you start examining it.
Yes, that is certainly an aspect of it. While a person of certain... Level of education, not to mention intellectual integrity, will look at the facts as relative to varying degrees, a person who wants to believe that the Earth is flat can latch onto semantic imprecisions and outdated approximations (and approximations are something both Newtonian and Einsteinean gravity are) in order to "prove" that their narrative is true and just and righteous and that Australians do, indeed, walk the right way up. Hmph! Ridiculous! >:(

Those are great.
Remind me of a video I saw where a guy thought that since the Earth rotates at about 1000 MPH as the conspirators want us to believe, that if he jumped, he would end up in a different state. He jumped and landed right where he started, thus proving that the Earth is flat and not spinning.
They guy could go onto a bus and while it's in motion he could jump. If he doesn't die from the impact of the back of the bus, then his idea is pretty stupid.

It's weird how even basic, easily testable things get past some people. They guy could go onto a bus and while it's in motion he could jump. If he doesn't die from the impact of the back of the bus, then his idea is pretty stupid.
If he jumped high enough he would hit the top of the bus with his head, suffer brain damage and die. Then we wouldn't have to listen to him any more.
Lol, but that would be due to air friction and wind, than to the speed of the bus vs. the person.
Two tests can be done to check:
Outside the bus, as it goes by, the person can jump when at the front, and see how far they would travel by the time they land.
Inside the bus, do an equal jump.
Then compare the distances "traveled."
Davin, That one went a little long but it made its point rather well.
Davin, That one went a little long but it made its point rather well.Beliefs are tough things to combat. Especially when those beliefs are tied to more personal things.
If the bus is traveling at 30 MPH, then the person would only need to be in the air for half a second to "travel" 21 feet. If they can manage a whole second, then they could make it 43 feet.
Well, just track the time in the air, with the distance difference, and repeat a few thousand times. Aggregate the data and see if there is a trend to "moving backwards."If the bus is traveling at 30 MPH, then the person would only need to be in the air for half a second to "travel" 21 feet. If they can manage a whole second, then they could make it 43 feet.
But, at the moment of jumping (vertically) the person is also doing 30mph, or whatever, in the same direction as the bus so, near as dammit, yes relative to the bus they will travel the same distance. Any loss of speed due to lost momentum whilst airborn will be tiny and lost in the "noise", but will still exist. The air around the jumper is also travelling at the speed of the bus (if all the windows are closed tight).

I may not comment on all, Silver, but your offerings always give me a laugh!
Thanks.
Me too Silver. 8)
Well, Argentium is a brainolgist, and knows all to well on how to tap into the laughitorium center of the thinking unit.
OK, where do I find these body soothing cannibals then?

Yes, and I will need photos. Are they young and smooth?

;) A math exercise can prove that the earth is flat. When you differentiate an equation....like Y=X^2 it becomes dy/dx=2X......you are actually finding the exact slope of two connected points on the equations curve. It is so small a space on the curve, that it is for all practical purposes a flat length of line. .........By extension, we are so tiny a location on the Cartesian graph of the greater universe that we just have to be living on a flat place. Just like the differential says.......... :bigspecs:....... :point&giggle:

Hey! Cats can be irresponsibly bred as well! ;)
^ I just have a problem with designer pets in general. The amount of inbreeding that goes on to achieve an aesthetic at the detriment of the animals' health is an absurd from a biological point of view.Yes. Very sad, isn't it? :(
