Title: Greetings from rural Virginia
Post by: jumbojak on May 07, 2012, 11:26:12 PM
I sincerely hope that "new topic" was the correct selection to add a new post. I am notoriously bad at using forums. As I said in the subject, greetings from rural Virginia, a region which, even if it is not technically in the Bible Belt, certainly aspires to match the American midwest in it's evangelical zeal. This atmosphere makes life difficult at times for an open atheist such as myself, although I have recently been encouraged by a number of aquaintances who have admitted privatley, that they too are atheists. It is my hope to spread the good news of the non existence of God wherever I am, and I am looking forward to numerous debates where I can improve my personal abilities in this discipline.

Hello and welcome to HAF, jumbojak. An evangelical atheist from rural Virginia, eh? You must have some interesting conversations. I spent some time in suburban Virginia (Leesburg, to be exact) and really enjoyed it, even in the summer. It seemed a markedly Christian and largely conservative milieu, I do admit. I hope that you're not too disappointed, but for some reason we don't get droves of aggressively argumentative theists here these days.

Welcome.  Remeber that atheists are much more common than you think.  I grew up in the midwest and I there a lot more atheists or at least doubters than you would think.

Be careful of the people on this forum.  There are some pretty good debaters, they'll have you thinking the world is flat, or a torus, or a mobius strip before you know it.  I find its best not to drink before posting.

Greetings, jumbojak!

You can see that most of us are gibbering mad - but don't worry.  We can also be serious when we need to be.  Anyway, the evil world conspiracy is only the Asmo.

I would agree that we're more common than you might think. The problem I see is too few of us are willing to say it out loud. I would also agree that posting while drunk is a bad idea.

Posting while drunk may be bad for you, but it usually is amusing for everyone else.
