Title: American History
Post by: bitter_sweet_symphony on December 22, 2007, 07:07:39 AM
Interacting with people on this forum has got me interested in American history. Pity that we didn't have much of it in our syllabus in school and I never was interested in history at that time. Do you know of any books or websites that can give an overview of American history? It doesn't have to be too extensive cause I don't need it for academic purposes.

Thanks.

I can't think of a good book on this topic at the moment, but I'm certain that wikipedia.org has loads of good info on that topic.  Don't worry about it being to extensive - America's history isn't that long in comparison to other nations and cultures.

You might want to try "American History for Dummies".  It's available at Amazon.com for about $14.  (It's on my wish list.)

Good book. Really, it is. Also any "Dummies" or "Idiot's Guides" to the American Revolution and the Civil War are keepers.

Biographies are nice, but they are generally for folks who already have a good grasp on the era of the subjects.

American History: English, Spanish, French & other nationalities killed off the natives, forced their religion upon them & took over their country. There, quick & painful.

Was that a little TOO honest/cynical? Hooray relatives. *rolling eyes*

HEE HEE!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to get the books mentioned. I can't use  amazon.com though, as it doesn't ship to India (I think).
