So I posted this on my Facebook. And unfortunately..I got some negative comments on it. I guess I can understand why...but I just liked the strength of the message. I guess people were taking this a little too literally or something.
I had a friend give me a sarcastic comment saying how they airdrop poets and dancers when they need some help in the military...deleted the comment so i don't have an exact quote.
I had another friend say: "Don't know if. Completely agree with the way this is written! Maybe I'm reading it as a negative aspect! I get it.....but don't really agree with the output of the message! My opinion!"
The last comment was actually interesting saying "This post makes me smile because we were discussing Wordsworth in class the other night and his preface to his anthology made the claim that poets were some kind of superheroes who alone could guard against the rising tide of tyranny, oppression and immorality. I agree artists are dangerous but we must be wary of being aware of how dangerous we are lest we fall prey to the high-minded, neglectful and prideful arrogance that would force the world to dismiss us and our art. In other words we are most dangerous when we remain unaware of our impact, catharsis can be the enemy of creativity."
So what do you guys think? Hmm...Just wanted to share my random thought of the day.

Oh yes! It's the poet's that I can't stand. Making you think about how life really works. Casting a light where one shouldn't. Opening people's eyes to reality. Should be banned in my opinion.
I think any successful political/religious/social movement would agree, unless you get the artists and designers on your side your not going to get the propaganda, uniforms, films, literature, images and overall aesthetic polish that will give the leaders of such groups the ability to grab the attention of the average person.

My Facebook is mostly filled with writers, belly dancers, academics, photographers, singers, etc. I think I'd get a pretty warm reception if I posted it. A few years ago Harper went on a huge spree of cutting funding to the Arts in Canada and almost everyone I know changed their profile picture to this:

Art serves its own ends and constitutes its own justification. Paradoxically, claims for its ability to ennoble us or fast-track us to some profounder awareness of the human condition are inherently instrumentalist. Ditto any hierophantic proposition that seeks to confer a sacred status on artists themselves.
As Wilde said, Art is useless. That may not be always literally true, but any utility a work of art may possess over and above the aesthetic satisfaction it offers is incidental.

I completely agree with your "Beware of Artists" poster. Being retired for the past five years, my fulltime hobby consists of studying song-writers (poets). It is a beautiful pastime. During that period I remember saying to myself: "Beware of Artists" many a times. Today I can safely say to myself that Pink Floyd better reflects my thoughts. There are others that I do like but do not my values.

Please, please! A bit of respect for the Queen of England. Stephen Harper has a taste for her ever since his government took out many Canadian paintings in public buildings and replaced them with Liz.
I think only two kinds of people could find that poster offensive or wrong...those who are shallow thinkers and those who take everything literally (like if you have a lot of autism spectrum friends).
I think it is pretty obvious that it is a poster about artists being dangerous to the establishment, suppression of freedom etc....after all, ideas/imagination can be quite dangerous to those who want to control people. Look at what the freedom of the internet has done in such a short time.
