Title: Hello from Southern California.
Post by: PolishGuy on March 29, 2012, 06:59:57 PM
Los Angeles area actually.  Found this forum after revisiting my feelings and thoughts about Atheism.  There are other forums, websites and actual physical group meetings in my region of the land but I like the "Happy" part of this forum's name.  I'll be 60 in May of this year and feel it's time  for me to be comfortable and feel good about my Atheistic view.  So, I'll be reading and lurking alot along with the occasional post.  Since my life doesn't revolve around the internet, tweeting or Facebook my on-line activities are low.  See ya around.  PG.

Hello PG

Nice to see another 'mature' member turn up, I was born in '59 and I think 'Oldgit' is our oldest member at 60+. We definitely have a happy crowd here.

Thanks for making the effort to sign up and join in.

Welcome!

I have a question: should I read your name as "Polish" as in "from Poland", or "Polish" as in, "I like to polish my shoes"?  :)

Good to know :) I wrote a couple of history papers on Poland in my undergrad. I always thought it seemed like a neat place.

Yes. It could be argued that Poland won WWII. The war started because Germany invaded and Poland was occupied until Lech Wałęsa took over in 1990. The allies simply stopped fighting in 1945. Churchill wanted to push the Russian back to their pre-war borders and with the US atomic bomb they could have done it.

I did a big paper on "Solidarity" during the 80s. It's kind of amazing how, as a bloc state, they were pretty successful at consistently giving a big "FU" to the USSR.

Welcome from your friendly neighborhood Swede. ;D

I have a question: should I read your name as "Swede" as in "from Sweden," or as in "Swede" as in cruciferous plant with a thick bulbous edible yellow root?

Hello, Polish Guy.

Puddin' are you teasing me? These questions are important! Otherwise my brain gets confused, and it's jumbly enough as it is.

No, well maybe just a little bit.
Mostly just being opportunistic.

Here's a jingle in recompense.

QuoteOh Mr Sheen, oh Mr Sheen
Todays the day to make your household gleam
From the table to the chair
And woodwork everywhere
Wax an polish as you dust with Mr Sheen
Oh what a sparkle
Oh what a sheen
Protects the fridge
And saves your new machine
Fingermarks around the door
Venetian blinds what's more
Wax and polish as you dust with Mr Sheen
Wax and polish as you dust with Mr Sheen
And there's the phone
And all the chrome
Even laminex comes sparkling clean
For an instant mirror sheen
To everything you clean
Wax and polish as you dust with Mr Sheen
Wax and polish as you dust with Mr Sheen

Polish as in from Poland.

I remember very well about the Solidarity movement back in the 80's. Many a times it made front page here in Québec. I also remember Lech Walesa although I had a hard time pronouncing his name.

Welcome

I am also from Southern California and older...76 years old
I have been an Atheist for over 60 years.
Religion and the zealots, and extremists are at the root of all wars and unrest throughout the world.

Hey, I'm in LA too. Welcome.
It's a good place to be an atheist, or anything. There's a church every other block and an atheist Meetup group every other weekend.
