Title: Salutations
Post by: Non Sum on March 23, 2012, 03:03:15 PM
It's contradictory to introduce one's self when taking one's self to be 'no one' (i.e. "non sum" = Latin 'I am not')  But, Registration said "please" do, thus leaving me little choice but to; so here goes:

.......................... Sorry ( I tried, really ) , this is just too 'not-moi.'  Besides, I just cannot conceive of why anyone should give a damn; I know that I sure don't.  Suffice it to say I'm an 'atheist,' but duh, why be here otherwise?

Okay,  Here's something a bit more novel:  I'm a "Mystic."  Not the 'astrologer/palm reader' type, but rather the philosophic variant.  The maxim best befitting this sort of mystic would be 'nothing on faith'; not gods, not goddesses, not matter, not thought, nada, save that which cannot be doubted lest one fall head over heels into self-contradiction.

See you around, NS (Nobody's Somebody)

Welcome!

Interesting intro, though wouldn't "I" along with "am not" be inherently self contradictory? ???

(anyways, sorry of that's not exactly what you meant, I'm going through a bit of an existential phase now and am taking it in the existential context.)

Yikes! Such unexpected kindness!  Much appreciated, my deistic denying fellows.

Jimmy, (you nother newbie, you) appears to have nailed it!

Thanks Tank for the welcome.  True, I'm "not me," but fear not, I'm not you either.

Gratis Crow.

xSilverPhinx, you have it exactly right!  {NS hands xSP a rubber cigar} The "I" is the one subject/object that escapes required faith, and is that which cannot be doubted lest we fall into "self-contradiction."  The mystical position (solipsitically) being that the self alone is real, but not a person (body, mind, acts) mistakenly taken to be that self.  After all, whatever appears To me cannot be me.

I hope we can find an opportunity to thrash out some Existentialism together.

Guardian'85' (good to see someone here's older than I), thank you.  I hope not to disappoint you.  Best to reserve your judgement, is my recommendation.  Ask yourself, 'if he doesn't sometimes bore himself why would he be here?'

Thank you all, NS (Novel Scum)

Hello Asmodean, (any relation to the evil Jewish demon, 'Asmodeus'?)
No need for "derail" this early in our posting.  It's usually at the end when I'm tarred, feathered, and ridden out on derail.

Hail Augustus.  I shall trust your word regarding certain demons; unless his diet involves 'newbies.'

Guardian, apologies for mistaking your "85" as being age-related.  Am I to assume there are 84 preceeding 'Guardians'?

I appreciate all of your assistance in working off my 10 post initiation req., or I'd be stuck here in 'newbie purgatory' working off my original sin of 'newness' until hell gave up all of its atheists.

Once upon a time, there was a 50 post newbie requirement.

It's a distant memory now, but I like to bring it up from time to time (because I was one of the people who had to tough it out).
Never forget, I say. Never forget.

There were 84 preceding Guardians before me, but they were not ex-military snipers and ninjas.  ;D

"But soft, what light from yonder window breaks?  It is the East and Juliet is the sun."

Hello, DeterminedJuliet, and thank you too for aiding me in my escape (6 mo to go).

Well, if you're determined Juliet, then I won't try to disuade you; but, ask yourself, 'have you fairly considered all other options?'   ;)

Or, is it that you find yourself predetermined to be a 'determinist' (hard or soft variety?)?  If so, me too (hard).  If not, then you've only been determined to be deluded into advocating 'free-will.'  Me too (deluded, that is--not free-willish though).

"50"!!!  :o
I'd have never made it.  I'm impressed. Happy anniversary!

Thanks Budhorse4, (Is it about the beer, or do you have oversized feet?)

Hey G85, I too am "exmilitary."  Proud of the "ex," still trying to forget the "military."

haha, I'm afraid my name isn't anything that well thought out. I took a silly girlie online quiz when I was 13 and it told me I was a "DeterminedJuliet" . It just kinda stuck as my persona. Determinism isn't something I think much of in my day-to-day life, but it sounds like it'd be an interesting topic once you're able to discuss it in the philosophy forum. :)

All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you would fix if you happen to werent too busy looking for attention.

Huh?
