Hello Mary Condon.
I hope you'll be happy being a member of HAF, I'm also a member of the subgroup Happy Atheist Troika (HAT).

Welcome to HAF.  I didn't know there was an atheist political party.  You may also be interested in Secular Coalition for America...and perhaps bring them to the attention of NAP too as I don't see NAP on their member or endorsing organizations list.  Also, find out if your campus has a Secular Student Alliance and if they don't have one you could start one.

Hello and welcome to HAF, Mary. Like Whitney, I was unaware of the N. A. P. .  I've looked through a bit of their website, and so far haven't found anything that I strongly disagree with, which is extremely rare in my experience of political parties.  I'm confident that I will eventually find something to object to, however.  ;) Their logo looks like a modified version of the "Invisible Pink Unicorn" logo (http://www.invisiblepinkunicorn.com/ipu/home.html).

Title: Hey!
Post by: m.condon on January 14, 2012, 04:10:00 AM
My name is Mary Condon. I am a full-time college student and a full time member of the National Atheist Party. I am a strong supporter of a secular government. I do not think that religion should play any role in the making of laws or any aspect of government or government funded institutions. I feel that the National Atheist Party is the best way for people to organize and campaign for a secular government. It gives atheists, agnostics and others a political voice. In our current political climate it is especially essential that we speak up. New laws are being passed every day with their only justification being based on religious reasoning. I think it is high time we stand up and ask our current political candidates "What are you doing for atheist voters?"

We actually just recently gained endorsement from the Secular Coalition, may not have been added to their site just yet.  Always looking for more endorsements and organizations to work with.

Was that written in some pamphlet or something?

It has political appeal written all over it. ;)

I hope this is for a legitimate sign up and not just because there's a presidential election process starting up right now. My cynical self thinks the latter. If I'm wrong, I'll apologize. Seems a bit like someone just trying to promote their group on as many atheist forums as possible.

(I woke up grumpy this morning)

;)

Glad to be here and glad you find the National Atheist Party interesting. I definitly suggest you check it out. Not trying to advertise the party too much. I just found it a good match for myself, and I hope to let others know about it.  I have been met with a lot of controversy on atheist forums when I mention the party. I am glad that you were more receptive than other forums. Its nice to be in a place where I can discuss with other atheists. ALl my friends are atheists but very adamant in their veiws and I always like to get other  opinions.

Well I have plenty of moments today :P
i've been signing up for atheist forums to become better connected with the atheist community and to spread awareness about National Atheist Party, which takes some explaining. A lot of atheists seem really opposed to a political organization, whereas I see a great need for it. I've been shot down and told I'm uneducated and confused. It was kind of offensive but I can't expect everyone to welcome me with open arms.
I am in charge of the PR and Marketting committee for the Party and am open to criticisms and advice on every level. Here are some articles that have recently been published on our site if you want to check it out

Hey guys. We don't accept other people coming in and advertising their websites, books, groups, etc. unless they've gotten past the ten post limit.

Sorry, but I'm disabling the links until that happens here too. My concern is still that m.condon is simply here to advertise to as many atheist sites as possible.

Sorry, m.condon, but the rules apply to all new members.

You are more than welcome here, of course, but please get to know the forum a bit more and we'll get to know you as well.

I was just replying to someone's comment. Not here just to push my organization but it is something I am involved with and would like to share news articles from it.  I see it as a good resource, that I pull from often. I understand your position and hope you will allow me to contribute in the future.

I understand that you had to reply to the other person's comment. No problem there at all. Just making it clear that the same rules we apply to other new members here also apply equally to atheists. We don't allow for posts outside of certain areas until you reach the ten post minimum (which you've done now!). We also don't allow "advertising" posts until we've gotten a better feel for you. That's all it was about.

You, of course, are free to contribute to the forum, and we welcome your input and contributions.

I really do try to keep away from pushing my beliefs or anything on other people. I hate to come off that way and since typing is a bit limiting I can see how I could come off as advertising. I will let you know I get most of my news articles from the NAP so I will cite them as a source and reference when its related. I have been met with some ridicule from other sites for my affiliate with the NAP and I hope that will not happen here. I try to be an active productive member and hope to make some friends here
