Why do some atheists refer to Jesus as Jeebus or Jeezus? I'm not aware of any other person from history whose name is intentionally misspelled. Just wondering.
And don't worry. I'm not going to start a riot.
Don't know why, but it makes me think of Homer Simpson... ???
Jesus is popular, that's good meme material.
I say Jeez a lot (and Jesus is the last thing on my mind during those moments), but not Jeebus, Cheesus or any other variation.
I'm not really sure. I just like saying jeebus because it sounds funny.
There must be lots of people in history who have had their names intentionally misspelled. Our prime minister Julia has her name twisted to juLIAR. Clever ha? I think she made the comment she's glad her name isn't Virginia. So it could be done out of disrespect, respect, mockery, humour etc. The Simpsons was where I first heard "Jeebus," I thought it was part humour and part avoiding direct insult to Christians. I've heard there are some weird christians in the US, if they complain about disrespect the resemblance of Simpsons fictional characters with other fictional characters can be denied, well maybe not convincingly.
I think one of them is from Black gospel preachers...Jeezus...about 50s in

I used to say Jeebus, even when I was a Christian.
Then again, I'm a bit silly.

Because some atheists are pricks.
I've known a few Christians who say Jeez or Sweet Jeebus as an exclamation. I think it had something to do with it not technically taking the lords name in vain.
As for why atheists do it, well I think its meant to be funny or disrespectful.

I think you know well enough that it signifies intentional disrespect; an admittedly somewhat puerile approach. Considering that this is a tactic that is fairly widely used these days (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/a1aih/what_is_the_name_for_an_intentional_misspelling/) when attempting to demean influential figures or groups, I suppose that Christians could take it as a backhanded acknowledgement of their continuing influence in society. ::)

If that's all they've got, I give them a C- for Word Play.
I find some of these demeaning tactics to be witty in fact, "evilotionist" among them. "Faux News", etc.
Ass-theists, on the other hand...I don't get it. ??? Is that for atheists or theists?

"evilotionist"
The Asmo only uses
evil lotions. That would make him an evilotionist, yes? ???

Ass-theist?
Is that supposed to apply to us or certain misbehaving clergymen?

Yeah, they should have given that one a little more thought before going with it.

Yeah, you're right. I know why. Just wanted to put it on the radar. Anyway, thanks for the responses.
