Title: Dropping a Magnet Through a Copper Pipe
Post by: Recusant on December 21, 2011, 03:03:34 AM
Nothing groundbreaking at all, but still a cool little video illustrating eddy current braking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current_brake).

This reminded me of the ferrofluid electromagnetic sculptures of Sachiko Kodama & Minako Takeno.

I remember seeing a demo of eddy currents at the Science Museum when I was a kid. One dropped a coin down a slot with some very powerful horse shoe magnets and coins slowed down as they passed through the magnets.
