Just thought I would introduce myself, as I am brand new to the forum. I come to the happy atheist forum as an agnostic. Not all atheists are happy with that categorization, but maybe the "Happy Atheists" will be. I was born and raised in Michigan, grew up on Christianity, spoon fed to me every Sunday - until finally as an adult I was able to break free from what I deem unintentional mind control. I don't feel hatred or anger at those that believe in what they wish to believe, but I do feel sorry for them in a way because they believe so blindly.
I am 32 years old and still reside in Michigan with my wife and 3 boys, ages 8, 7, and 5.
I attend a Christian University. I chose the school solely based on cost and convenience, and am on my way to completing a Bachelor's in Business Management. I enjoy hearty debate, especially when it is constructive and by constructive I mean someone learns something as an outcome of the arguments made.
Welcome to the forum! We really don't mind that you're and agnostic, heck we have quite a few theist here that get along just fine. I look forward in getting to know you. ;D
Welcome!
How would you describe your beliefs? I'm curious because most atheists would actually call themselves 'agnostic atheists', as in another way of saying 'weak atheist' (without certainty but don't believe).
Hello and welcome to HAF,
Sgtmackenzie. I personally have no problems with agnostics. However, we've had at least a couple of militant agnostics drift through here in the past, who seemed just as obnoxious as militants of any other stripe. (I
know! :D) With an easy-going approach such as you describe, I think you'll be comfortable here. Only a few members bite, and at least one of them doesn't have any teeth as such.

Without getting too "preachy", I believe that it is not yet proven whether god does or does not exist and that anyone who claims to know the truth either in the belief of a god or the disbelief of a "higher power" is fooling themselves.
I tend to side with the atheists in most discussions.
Yes, this I have heard it referred to as weak atheism before. I prefer to be called an Agnostic as Thomas Huxley was, but mostly I prefer it because it was how Clarence Darrow referred to his belief system. I think it was in reading his part in the play "Inherit the Wind" during an AP English class that led me to the idea that there were other ways of thinking than what I had been spoonfed as a child.
"I am an agnostic; I do not pretend to know what many ignorant men are sure of."
Clarence Darrow

So was that a stripe joke?
Hello Sgtmackenzie, I'm sure you won't be three times as obnoxious as those stripy militants, well you could be, I'm agnostic about the matter.
Ye OK sorry, I'll go now. :)
